Jess woke up, she sighed, why did she always wake up so early if she could sleep in. She decided to get up and softly got out of the bed, carefully to not wake Tom up.
She went quickly in the shower and decided to see if Eddy was already awake or not, to thank him again.
She left the room and almost bumped into Jill.
“Ow, sorry, I almost didn’t see you there” she apologized.
Jill gazed down at her belly and sighed, “wait ‘till in a couple of months…”
Jess smiled awkwardly and didn’t really know what to say. Jill noticed this and fought this inner battle. She could just leave and keep ignoring the fact that Tom was in love. Or she could try to get to know this girl and get along with her. If she had to believe Tom, Jess wouldn’t be a one-night-thing.
She decided to just go for it and asked: “Do you want to get some breakfast with me?”.
Jess looked surprised at Jill, she had always thought the girl didn’t like her that much.
“Euh, okay, I’ll just leave a note then for in case Tom wakes up.”

A bit later the girls were sitting awkwardly at a table.
“So…” Jess started.
“So…” Jill said too.
“This is… weird.” Jess concluded.
The other girl smiled, “sorry if I’ve been a bit, weird around you. It’s just… I don’t know.”
“It’s okay… it is a bit unnatural.”
“Yeah.”
“So, are you exited about the doctor’s appointment?” Jess asked, trying some small talk.
“Yes, very! I’m going to get to see the baby, and we’ll know the sex and all. I’m sooooo nervous! I hope everything will be all right.”
“I’m sure it will.”
“Would you, I mean, you don’t have to if you don’t want to, but, would you like to come with me?”
“What? Really? Isn’t this something you and Tom should do alone?”
“Hmm, I guess, but I want some support! I had hoped my mother would come… but, well…”
“I’ll come, if that’s what you want,” Jess said lightly surprised.
“It’s just, I don’t have that many friends here, I had at home, but well, here it’s just Tom and the guys. And I’m not that close with any of them. Don’t get me wrong, they’re nice and all, but it’s not the same. And I know you and I are in an awkward situation, but I just want to make best of it. You’re going to be around. Around me when I’m pregnant and around the baby when it’s born, I can’t deny that. So I just, I hoped you could be my back-up. Tom is the sweetest, really, but he’s still a guy. I need a girl sometimes.”
Jess smiled, she hadn’t expected this. But she liked it. She wanted to come, and see the baby. She was almost as exited as Tom and Jill were.
“Okay, I’ll come! No problem. I’m glad you asked!”
“Really? Thanks!” Jill said, and she gave Jess a quick hug.
After that the awkward tension between them was gone, and they talked freely about everything that came to their minds.
When Tom entered the breakfast room a few minutes later, he saw Jill and Jess sitting there. A smile found his way on Tom’s face, happy to see that the two seemed to get along.
