interview met Tom over bill
------------------
Tom, your brother Bill will be operated today or tomorrow. How does Bill spend his days at home?
Bill is lying in bed most of the time watching TV. We've given him DVDs so he is quiet. Right now, it watching the full seasons of "prison break", which keeps him busy. Now and then, he shuffles into training clothes to the fridge and gets something to eat. If I could finally see him get in front of the TV with a box of beer to see Fussi, I will be really proud of my little brother.
Who cooks for Bill?
At the moment I cook every day with my special spaghetti sauce. I may say my sauce is absolutely incredible. Bill probably gonna detest it, but can't complain because he has to save his voice. Bill cooks worse than I do. From time to time, our Ma visit us, and you can see that Bill's so happy when she is in the kitchen.
How does it feel like to be at home for such a long time without a break?
We've been on the road for years and suddenly you're at home all day long. It is a drastic change. You're falling into a hole and suddenly you miss being on the road. And Bill misses being able to sing. Bill is not only singing on stage and in the studio; usually he is singing the whole day at home. No wonder his voice is stricken. Now he is quiet - I think the silence is comfortable.
Is Bill in pain? How are you cheering him up?
Well, I think he's not in pain. Well, and if he were, he couldn't complain anyway because he has no voice. Usually Bill is talking non-stop, this can really get on your nerves. At the moment I have the most relaxed time of my whole life. If someone is talking, it is me. And Bill can't do anything against it. That is great. Yesterday he wrote "Shut your fuckin' mouth!" with his eyeliner on a sheet of paper. If I'm getting on Bill's nerves he holds up this note.
Will you go with Bill to the hospital? How long does he have to stay?
Bill wants to stay in the hospital as short as possible. Likely, he can't stand to stay there longer than 1-2 days. I'm going with him and will stay by his side the whole time, for sure. Our family, the closest friends, Georg and Gustav and our crew will visit him too, of course.
What are your drummer Gustav and your bassist Georg doing at the moment?
Well, for them it will be like always. What are they supposed to do? They are doing nothing, like always Georg is likely playing with himself the whole day, as always and Gustav is riding his bycicle.
Nah, to be honest, I think we're all the same. Because of this forced break we can calm down. Maybe this is not so bad.
Are you scared that "Tokio Hotel" won't sound the same after the surgery? Is Bill scared that his voice will be higher or deeper after the surgery?
To be honest we really are fucking scared. Both of us. If so, Bill already gave me signs that I have to sing. Well, Phil Collins also was a drummer before he started singing.
So you have an emergency plan. Your fans are also very concerned. There are a lot of presents for Bill, aren't there?
It is really incredible and absolutely cute what the fans are doing. Bill is getting showered with fan-presents at the moment. Most of them got inspired by Bill's throat. He is perfectly equipped for the next skiing trip. He got a lot of scarfs and shawls. And we can also open an apothecary. Countless of drops, multi-vitamine pills, vitamine C, zinc and also many homeopathic like stuff which will make your immune system more stable. If you take it all at once you maybe have a very nice trip

Bill zijn operatie ging dus ofwel gisteren ofwel vandaag doorgaan en het is dus gisteren gebeurd !!
Hier een nieuwsbericht van Bild
Tokio-Hotel-Manager: Bills OP verlief gut
The voice cord operation of Tokio Hotel singer Bill Kaulitz [18] was successful according to his manager. “The operation went through like planned and the surgeon is very optimistic“, says the producer David Jost. “The handling doctor is one of the best in his field. If the operation really worked and if Bill’s voice will really be the same as before we can sadly not say yet.”
Mai in Washington stattfinden.
Kreide-Schultafel. Jost sagte weiter, Zwillingsbruder Tom habe Bill ins Krankenhaus begleitet.
Has Tokio Hotel singer Bill Kaulitz ruined his voice?
Hamburg – It is most awful thing that could happen.
Tokio Hotel singer Bill Kaulitz (18) has to be operated for a cyst on his vocal cords.
He is not allowed to sing, all shows have been cancelled. A catastrophe for the band.
How could it get this far?
Since he was 11 Bill has been singing Rock songs on stage, demanding a lot of his voice.
In last year alone he played 43 concerts without giving himself a break.
“Not everyone can just demand so much of his voice”, tells Dr. Thomas Disselbeck (50). “When you sing a lot, you have a big chance of developing this cyst. Also strong intense singing, high notes and frequent singing can result in damage of the vocal cords.”
Did Bill ruin his voice?
“Bill already has vocal therapy for many years and since 3 years he is warming up his voice before a concert for at least 30 minutes,” tells producer and manager David Jost. “But during the concert itself he wants to go with his feeling and let his emotions out, he then has to watch that he doesn’t demand toi much of his voice.”
Bill is not the first Rockstar with problems on his vocal cords. Also Justin Timberlake (27) has had surgery in 2005 for a cyst on his vocal cords and wasn’t allowed to sing or speak after that for weeks.
The 125.000 ticket owners are shocked after hearing the news about Bill’s operation.
After cancelling the concert in Dortmund, more than 100 shocked fans that have been there since more than a week in the Westfalenhalle went home.
An eyewitness tells: “There was much sadness and tears but most of them have made peace with it.”
How is Bill right now?
David Jost: “He is in bed taking medication to keep his vocal cords down. The doctors can’t operate yet because he has taken aspirin in the days before against headaches. This medication has to get out of his blood system first. It can lead to complications otherwise during surgery.”
The medical file of “Tokio Hotel” Bill
Hamburg - In this professionally written medical report is the fate of Germany’s most famous rock star.
“Tokio Hotel” singer Bill Kaulitz [18] may be having the cyst on his vocal cords surgically removed still in this week. [BILD reported].
How bad is it really about his voice? BILD has Bill’s medical file exclusively in which his Hamburger doctor had written up for the insurance of the band.
In the specialist report from Bill’s doctor it says: “By Mr. Kaulitz there is a significant organic thickening in the middle third of his left voice cord… It is a thickening intracordale voice lip cyst with a secondary epithelial thickening and posing.”
ENT physician Dr. Thomas Disselbeck [50] explains the illness: “Bill has a cyst on the inside of his left voice cord that’s already growing on the outside. That could indicate that he overused his voice despite the cyst. That he can no longer do, otherwise it could turn out far worse.”
Next it states in Bill’s medical file: “The problem of such is that the collision forces the voice lip to hit against a not so smooth voice lip surface that strains more on the area of thickening.”
The specialist explains what that means; “Normally the vocal cord beats in speaking stretches out over the entire length of each other that creates the sound. When Bill strikes the right vocal cord with the cyst, it means that his voice is rough and his singing voice will break off in the middle.”
FOR THE SINGER A DISASTER!
Then it says in Bill’s file: “Mr. Kaulitz will have a surgery in which the cyst will be removed and the voice cords reconstructed.”
Dr. Disselbeck explains the technical terms: “This means that the cyst will be removed under a microscope with a fine scissor. Then the mucous smoothed out so that it can return to its original state. ”
What does this mean for Bill next? The doctor: “He may not speak for ten days after surgery and will need voice training for the next three weeks with a speech and language therapist to strengthen his voice.”
Bill is fearing for his voice
He is lying in his bed and is taking medication to calm down his vocal cords.
Bill Kaulitz ( 18 ), the singer and girlmagnet of Tokio hotel, has got a cyst on his vocal cords and is waiting to be operated for it. “In the next 5 days it will happen,” according to his manager David Jost.
The young star has taken aspirin against his headache in the last few days, ”these have to get out of his blood system first,” Jost tells. “During surgery it could lead to complications.” The fans are worrying about the young star.
The manager: “The surgery and the cancelled concerts are on Bill’s mind. Taking that into consideration it isn’t going well with him at the moment, but his brother is constantly by his side.”
Fear for the surgery? And that his voice will be damager?
“Yes, of course he has big fear for the operation and his voice. This is just horror for a singer,” Jost tells, “but without the surgery the chance of permanent damage will be even bigger.”
With a cyst on your vocal cords, they can’t really close, not to mention sing.
With every note Bill sings the sounds isn’t spread throughout his vocal cords the right way, without the surgery this problem will keep coming back.
All concert from the “1000 hotels European tour” had to be cancelled. If and when the shows will be played again will be decided after the operation. Healing time after the surgery: 2 to 3 weeks.

“On behalf of the whole band and especially Bill, I would like to thank all the fans for their messages, letters that we have recieved because of Bill’s surgery.
Bill is really happy that you all have tried to cheer him up. Bill and the rest of us are all incredibly sorry we had to cancel so many concerts and we hope you will give us the chance to make it up to you.
Tom”
Surgery: Next Monday
After the surgery he isn’t allowed to speak for 10 days!
He has to go to the logopedic and use “this time of peace”, according to his producer and manager.
The young singer with the troubled voice. When will he be operated? When can he speak again? When can he sing again?
At the moment Tokio hotel singer Bill Kaulitz (18 ) is in a clinic, saving his voice, preparing himself for the surgery. On one of his vocal cords a cyst has to be removed. His brother Tom (18 ) is constantly with him, Bill is very worried about his voice.
The Tokio Hotel producer and manager David Jost tells: “The operation will probably be done next Monday”, and you can be sure of it that this won’t be a “quick fix”, even when the surgery is just small and goes well.
Jost explains: “Right after the surgery Bill isn’t allowed to speak for 10 days, and the healing of his vocal cords will be closely watched by his doctors. The healing time will be about 3 weeks.”
How is Bill doing, what is he thinking about, what does he want? David Jost: “Bill is going crazy, he is constantly thinking about it, when will he be able to go back on stage again.
He has got a bad conscious because of the cancelled concerts. That is just totally foolish, he just has got to stop thinking like that. Bill hates when people tell him what to do, but after the surgery he will have to stick to the healing time, even if we have to force him!”

More about Bill’s Operation:
Bill operated on vocal cords
-Tom and his parents were constantly with him
-After 30 minutes everything was over
-10 days the singer isn’t allowed to speak
Bill Kaulitz was yesterday operated on his left vocal cord. If everything went well will become clear in the next few weeks.
He has survived. Yesterday in the afternoon, Tokio Hotel singer Bill Kaulitz (18) is operated on his vocal cords. A cyst is removed from his left vocal cord. His twin-brother Tom and his parents were constantly with him.
“His doctor is one of the best in his expertise. During the surgery everything went smooth and the doctor is very optimistic,” tells Tokio Hotel producer and manager David Jost shortly after the operation. However, Bill is still worried. Understandable. The procedure can lead to change in his voice. It can become lower or higher.
“If Bill’s voice will sound like before is impossible to say right now,” according to David Jost. Spiritual support Bill got from his “Talisman,” twinbrother Tom and his parents. “They are constantly with him in the clinic,” tells Jost. Today or tomorrow Bill will leave the hospital again. “He has to go back to the doctor every day for the next week for evaluation.” And not one word is he allowed to speak for the next 10 days!
To make sure Bill can make himself understandable, Tom has given Bill a little chalkboard as gift. Write away. In May he will be back on stage again…
In one month, Bill will sing again
Tokio Hotel fans can breathe again. Just one day after his vocal cord operation, Bill has been released from the hospital yesterday.
“The operation lasted 45 minutes,” tells David Jost, manager from the band. “Everything went according to plan and there were no complications.” The first ones to visit his bed were of course his parents and twin-brother Tom.
The conversation went everything except smooth: Bill remained silent. The singer isn’t allowed to say anything for the next 10 days. Bill can only communicate with a chalk board his brother Tom gave him.
Even though nothing was said: “Bill wanted to stay as shortly as possible in the hospital,” says manager David Jost. And that’s why yesterday the Tokio Hotel singer left on the way home.
But the next month will be tough: First 10 days no speaking (and singing of course), then a 3 week voice training. David Jost however gives the fans some hope: “The first public performance will probably be on 1 May – at the US-concert in Washington.”
And the German fans can celebrate Tokio Hotel again on 23 May in Oberhausen at the music award VIVA – Comet. Tokio Hotel has been nominated 3 times. In the category “best band,” “best live-act” and “best video.”
A bright point! Tokio hotel singer Bill Kaulitz (18 ) has gotten permission from his doctors to break through his silence in the middle of next week, then begins voice rehabilitation.
With “therapeutic singing aspects” Bill’s voice will be brought back to his old condition, the next concert is already planned on 1 May in Washington, USA!
His producer David Jost: “The doctor still believes that his voice didn’t undergo any changes during the surgery.”
Bill Kaulitz with a wheelchair to his room
Hamburg – „Tokio-Hotel“ singer Bill Kaulitz [18] is on his way to recovery after his surgery.
“15 minutes after the surgery, Bill was brought to the room in wheelchair to wake up from the anesthetics“, explains Bill’s twin brother Tom [18]. “Shortly after that I went to see him with my parents. Man, the poor boy looked so lost and confused. He was so out of it.”
Was Bill conscious after the surgery?
Tom: “Well, not really. Because of the after effects of the anesthetics for example, Bill can’t remember the wheelchair or the switch of rooms.”
How does Tom communicate with his brother now?
Tom: “The tiny notes and little school chalkboard writings didn’t last long. Bill a very communicative person; he normally talks all day long with no dot and comma. Notes and chalkboards aren’t enough for that. Since yesterday he has been running around the apartment with a huge writing book and that book is almost full.”
Fans have sent him endlessly long get well letters and a vaporizer.
Tom: “There was even a neck brace. Someone probably misunderstood what type of operation, but Billi still thought it was totally cute.”
After the operation: Bill speaks now in an e-mail interview
He may not speak! But he still breaks his silence – Bill Kaulitz [18], Tokio Hotel front man. Now he “wrote” his first interview after his throat surgery to the magazine „Vanity Fair“ which will be out on Thursday.
He my seem cool, but if you read between the lines you see doubt!
Bill: “But I still fear for my voice and I also still feel very guilty over it because of the cancelled concerts.”
And: “I was under anesthesia and had a wonderful metal rod shoved in my throat, then had my voice cords snipped around on with small knives. Everyone knows that feeling. Man, I am glad that’s all behind me.”
This week Bill has to go to undergo a voice-rehabilitation to train his golden voice box. But he’s not really feeling good about it. Bill ironically: “I’m so totally up for that!”
Already on the 1st of May, Bill Kaulitz will be back on stage again with Tokio Hotel in the US. If he can bawl the successful hit “Scream” stays questionable.
In an exclusive interview with VANITY FAIR, the Tokio Hotel singer reports about his vocal cord operation.
He may not speak at the moment, but the expressions for his words just says it all: Bill Kaulitz [18], singer of the band Tokio Hotel, has exclusively spoken out to VANITY FAIR about his vocal cord operation earlier this week.
Through e-mail, Kaulitz reports about his current health condition: “I was under anesthesia and had a wonderful metal rod shoved in my throat, then had my voice cords snipped around on with small knives. Everyone knows that feeling. Man, I am glad that’s all behind me. But I still fear for my voice and I also still feel very guilty over it because of the cancelled concerts.”
After the operation, Kaulitz may not speak for twelve days, “then I have to have voice rehabilitation for the next 4 weeks. I’m so totally up for that!”
Before the surgery, the singer gave VANITY FAIR a detailed interview. There for example, he speaks about his school, the growing up with his twin brother Tom and also about his unique way of appearance: “The make-up Bill is definitely closer to me than the natural one. The plain Bill is like a disguise to me. If I weren’t famous, I’d still walk around this way. It just belongs to me.”
To Kaulitz it’s no wonder that a lot of people think he’s gay: “Most have this cliché like thinking: Make-up plus made hair is equal to gay. And that’s the exact statement I wanted to make as this is not true. Everyone can do what they want. The one doesn’t have to do with the other. ”
Kaulitz thinks very little about sex with groupies: “It grosses me out having someone crawl in my bed at night that I don’t even know. I’m not at that point yet. I wouldn’t even have the trust to take a in girl for one night. The only privacy you have while on the go is your own hotel room. And to let someone in for a night to sleep with - Uh no, I’d be a little skeptical.”
The detailed interview will be exclusively in the new issue of VANITY FAIR
“On his sick bed Bill already has some thoughts about his funeral: “In the coffin, I’ll be in all black and will have a leather jacket on,” he tells in the interview right before his operation. His last wish is that his hair will be styled.
Despite the illness of their lead singer, Tokio Hotel is swimming on a wave of success. In Canada the album “Scream”, the english version of the album “Schrei” has climbed up the charts to number 6; as Jost announced. “During the last North America tour, the boys have played two concerts in Canada”, as he says about the popularity torwards the Magdeburger teen rockers.”

For Bild readers Bill now answers question about his surgery:
Bild; Bill, how do ya feel?
Bill: Well, i have felt better in my life, but it's ok. I am happy that it is all behind me. But i still fear for my voice and the damage there could have been done. Everything in my life is just about my voice. Pain i really don't have.
Bild; how did you experience the operation?
Bill: When i was going under narcotics the doctors were all standing around me and i was fraid they might begin before it worked. The image of being operated on while conscious and that pretty. But shortly after that thought it started to work.
Bild; How was it to see your twinbrother Tom after that?
Bill: When Tom visited me on my wake bed i still had this needle in my arm. Because we both are phobic to needles it was really hard not to laugh about it - to bad i didn't dare too. And i also was wearing this awefull white outfit and green hat. I looked like i escaped from a mental hospital.
Bild; how does the day look for you now?
Bill: Just now i was watching the movie "interview with a vampire". When i don't watch dvd, Tom just has to be here, he always knows what i want to say. When someone ask a question i just quickly have to look at Tom and he knows the answer. If Tom would be here i just would endlessly writing everything down.
Bild; How often do you have to be in the clinic?
Bill: I have to come back a few times for check up and after that starts my voice rehabilitation.
