PART 1: BORING, LITTLE TOWN

“Luce, could you go back to work please?” Lucy sighed. She got up from her chair by the window, though she really didn’t want to. Not that she had so much to do besides working in the restaurant, but it was just… she was tired, all her friends were in the city, enjoying their holidays. And she had to work, again. She looked at her watch. 3pm. She sighed once more. Today she had to work until 6pm, and after that she had to take care of the twins. No holiday for her, not anymore…
Still feeling sorry for herself, Lucy started wiping off tables, a job that was not too intensive, and which didn’t involve putting your hands in dirty water and cleaning gross plates. As if her dad could read her mind, he screamed from the kitchen: “Luce, if you’re finished with the tables, could you come and help me with the dishes?” “Yes, dad…” She slowed down her table-wiping-speed a little. It was sad. It was a very beautiful, sunny day and still they had no clients. What did you expect, then? Their restaurant was situated in the middle of nowhere. The only neighbours they had were the owners of a small bed-and-breakfast and the little grocery store, which had the very original name Mary’s after Mary, the women who owned the store. Boring, little town… And because of the nice weather, no one seemed interested in a good steak with French fries, no, they all went to Mary’s for sandwiches, which they could eat on the little tables in the fake park Mary constructed in front of her store. Park is a big word, let’s just call it 2 trees and a bush. Nothing more than 2 trees and a bush. That’s what Lucy called her little town, because apparently these 2 trees and the bush were the most exciting thing over there. Every passenger seemed to get attracted by them, they all went to Mary’s and ate in front of her store. Lucy was wondering how long it would last until her father ran out of money. He already had to fire a waitress because he couldn’t pay her anymore. Barry would get the sack soon too if nothing changed… She couldn’t even think about it. What would they do? Her worrying got interrupted by the sudden appearance of a big, grey bus in front of the restaurant. A few trucks followed it. They all parked on the little parking lot, which was actually a little too small. A big, muscled guy got out of the grey bus. He looked mad, really mad. Some of the truck drivers got out too, and they seemed very hurried to talk to the big guy. A lot more people came out of the bus. They all started talking and screaming at each other. Lucy was standing in front of the window to watch them. For her, this was one of the most spectacular things she had ever seen. The guys kept arguing. At once, Lucy noticed a tall guy with really weird hair. It was standing upright, like the mane of a lion. Very weird… How did he put it like that? She stopped looking at the black hair and saw the face of the guy. He was much younger than the other men. He was still a boy, a very tall and skinny boy. He looked bored. Next to Lion-boy was standing another young man. He was wearing a cap which seemed to be kept on his head by a bunch of dark blonde dreadlocks. He said something to Lion-boy and Lion-boy nodded, wrapping his arms around himself. They seemed cold. How could they be cold when the sun was shining so bright? Maybe because they were only wearing T-shirts. Lion-boy’s T-shirt was way too small, even though he was very skinny and Cap-guy’s T-shirt looked like a dress. It was way too big. Lucy thought that these guys probably needed the same size of T-shirts if they had known how to dress. She shook her head and wanted to go back to work before her dad would get mad. Maybe, if they were very lucky, the bus-guys would come in and order a delicious steak. She could only hope they would…

PART 2: NOT EVEN A GAS STATION

Lucy went into the kitchen. She didn’t say anything about the bus, she just went to the sink and let the water pour. She started doing the dishes, just like her father asked her.
After a few minutes, Lucy's father called her from the resaurant.
“Euhm, Luce,” he said, “come and watch this!” Lucy took her hands out of the hot, dirty water.
“What’s up?”
“There’s a whole lot of buses and trucks in front of the restaurant.” He seemed surprised.
“Yeah, I know, they’ve been there for a while. Do you think they’ll come in?” Lucy asked. Her dad shrugged his shoulders.
“Dunno. But if they do, we’ll have a lot of work, so go back to the kitchen and finish the dishes.” Lucy sighed and went back to work. Through the open door, she saw her father standing by the window. She felt angry. She was working as hard as she could, and her dad was just watching strangers in a big, boring, grey bus. It was not fair…
At once, Lucy heard the little bell that jingled when the door of the restaurant opened. She couldn’t see who entered from where she was standing, but she heard a low, kinda scary voice. The guy who was speaking must be really big, Lucy immediately thought it was the big, muscled guy from the bus.
“Excuse me, is there some kind of service station in the neighbourhood, our bus is broken down.”
“I’m sorry,” Lucy’s dad answered, “there’s not really anything in the neighbourhood. Just the restaurant, the grocery store and the bed-and-breakfast.”
“Not even a gas station?” The man sounded surprised.
“No…” Lucy heard her dad say, “but if you need gas-“
“I don’t need any gas!” the guy seemed to lose his patience. The bell jingled again.
“What are you guys doing here?” the big guy asked. He didn’t sound happy.
“We were cold outside. We’re just having a drink or something, then we’ll go back to the bus.” The voice that was speaking was very soft, though Lucy was sure it was a guy. Somehow she was almost certain that it was Lion-boy. She couldn’t help opening the door a little more and having a good look. She was right. Lion-boy and Cap-guy were standing in front of the entrance of the restaurant. Next to them was standing a smaller guy with half long, brown hair that looked really messy. What was up with these guys, why did they all have weird hair?
“Oh, yeah, fine,” the big guy said. Lucy had been right, it was the big, muscled guy who was talking to her dad.
“But wait a minute…” Big guy pointed his index finger at the 3 boys. “Where’s Gustav?”
“Oh, he’s just trying to fix the bus.” Lion-boy said, with a contemptuous smile. Lucy didn’t like his attitude. He looked like he owned the place. The way he walked made him seem like a king. A Lion King. Cap-guy and the other guy laughed at Lion-boy’s answer and after that, they went to a small table next to the window and sat down. Lucy didn’t know what to do. Should she go back to her dishes, or should she serve the weird guys? She didn’t have to think about it for long, because her father called her.
“Lucy, could you serve the clients, please?”
“Sure.” She walked slowly to the table. She didn’t have to hurry, their bus was broken down, so the guys probably didn’t have anything better to do than wait for her to serve them.

PART 3: THEY ARE DELICIOUS, SIR

“Good afternoon. What would you like?” Lucy asked finally. Cap-guy smiled suspiciously. Oh my God, did they really think this was funny? If Cap-guy just knew how much she hated serving other teenagers… It made her feel like she was worth less.
“Hot chocolate for me, please,” the guy with the messy hair said politely. He seemed all right.
“And give him a comb too,” Cap-guy added, pointing at his friend’s hair. Lion-boy started laughing hysterically. ‘you’re one to laugh…’ Lucy thought, but she didn’t say it. Cap-guy HAD a point, though…
“Okay, I’ll bring that comb,” she said. “What else?”
“Euhm…” Lion-boy looked at the menu. It took him very long to decide. God, didn’t he know what drink he liked?
“How are the waffles here?” he asked eventually. Lucy wanted to sigh, but she didn’t. Always be polite. ‘Brown,’ would have been the perfect answer, but again, she didn’t say it.
“They are delicious, sir.” Sir? Did she say sir to that weird guy? Why? Oh, it was really time for her to quit working at the restaurant…
“Are you serious or are you just trying to sell me a waffle?” Lion-boy looked her in the eyes and lifted a pierced eyebrow. Lucy noticed that he was wearing black eye shade. Why would a guy want to wear make-up? Was he even a guy? Lucy took a very subtle look at his chest, but she didn’t see anything there except for a long necklace with something that looked like a lion-tooth. How she loved the irony… No, this was a guy. Definitely. No girl could walk into a room and pretend to be the boss of everything like this guy just did.
“I’m not lying, the waffles are delicious.”
“Okay then, I’ll take one. And I guess my brother would like one too?” He looked at Cap-guy. Cap-guy nodded. His brother? Did Lion-boy just say that Cap-guy was his brother? They didn’t look like each other at all! Not at first sight at least… When she looked a little bit better, Lucy saw that they did have the same nose. And maybe the same eyes too, if Lion-boy wouldn’t have hidden his behind way too much black eye shade.
“Oh, I want a waffle too!” the guy with the messy hair yelled.
“Okay, that makes 3 waffles and a hot chocolate.” Lucy pretended to write something down, but she didn’t. It was not so hard to remember what the clients ordered if there were only 3 of them.
“Anything else?” Lion-boy started looking at the menu again and Cap-guy started staring at Lucy. She didn’t like it. Cap-guy wasn’t unattractive or anything, she just didn’t like being stared at. It made her feel uncomfortable.
“Am I rude when I tell you that you have very nice hair?” he said at once. *Shock*
“Why would you wanna say that?” Cap-guy shrugged.
“Just because it’s nice. I like that… euhm… ginger colour. It’s cool.”
“Well, thanks,” Lucy said a little confused. ‘Don’t start blushing, don’t start blushing,’ she told herself. Luckily she was saved by Lion-boy.
“I’ll try that fresh orange juice. But it’d better be fresh!” He smiled at her. Was he kidding? Apparently he was, because the guy with the messy hair started giggling like a little girl. God, these guys didn’t need a lot to start laughing. Were they drunk or was their level of funniness just not very high?
“I’ll just take an ice tea, please,” Cap-guy said. Finally. They all ordered. Lucy was almost glad that she could go back to the kitchen now…

PART 4: No Outside-boys

Lucy started preparing the drinks for the weird guys. Barry was there for the waffles. He had been studying upstairs, but apparently Lucy’s dad told him they had customers. Barry started making the waffles immediately.
“Do we have clients?” he asked, a little surprised. Especially at this time of the day, they were not used to having to cook.
“Yeah, some weird guys. Apparently their bus broke down and now the younger boys are here to have a drink. The others are trying to find a solution, I guess...”
“Come on, Luce, weird guys? Don’t say that! How bad can it be?”
“Pretty bad.” Lucy opened the door and let her cousin have a look at Lion-boy and co. Barry laughed.
“You’re right. They look... funny...” He stopped smiling at once and he sighed. “To be honest, I wish I could be a little more like them. They’re so different and they don’t seem to care, they only do what they wanna do. They look like the kind of guys that will have a job they really like when they’re older. I don’t think they would ever work in a restaurant because they didn’t know what else to do.” Barry seemed to be talking to himself. Lucy was a little worried.
“Are you okay? How’s the studying going?” she asked. Barry looked at her with small, sad eyes and he sighed again.
“Oh, God, Luce, it’s just nothing for me. I’m not on this world to sit behind a desk and put files in order. I want to do something with my hands, something a little more creative... like the cooking, but in a restaurant where they do have clients...” Lucy put her hand on his shoulder.
“It will be fine. Someday your dreams will come true,” she said, with an amused tone in her voice. Barry laughed again.
“You sound like Cinderella!” Lucy laughed too. She hugged her cousin and patted him on the back as if he was a cute little dog.
“Oh, Lucy, if you weren’t here-”
“-then you would be alone with my dad and that would be really sad.” She gave him her most sorrowful fake look and they laughed again.
“Now I have to bring Lion-boy his orange juice. I hope it’s fresh enough. Oh, and do you have a comb?”

Still with a smile on her face, she walked back to the table were the weird guys were sitting. Only when she had put their drinks in front of them, she noticed a fourth guy. He looked a little boring (but anyone would have looked boring compared to the other three). He had a likeable face and normal, dark blonde hair with a cap on it.
“Hello,” he said when he saw that Lucy was looking at him.
“Hi, would you like a drink too?”
“Yeah, hot chocolate please, it smells so good.” He smiled politely. Finally a normal guy.
“I’ll get it immediately.” Lucy wanted to go back to the kitchen, but the normal guy started talking.
“You don’t have to hurry. We’ll probably have to stay here for a while. The bus is broken down quite bad. Can’t fix it.” Lion-boy smiled at these words.
“And apparently there’s nothing in the neighbourhood,” he continued, “is there?” Lucy shook her head.
“No, I’m sorry. We call this place 2 trees and a bush. And that’s for a reason...”
“You mean because there are 3 buildings over here, 2 big ones and a small one?” Lion-boy guessed.
“No,” Lucy said, though she thought that would have been a more common answer.
“No, it’s because of that little park across the street, in front of the grocery store. That’s were all the passengers go.” The guys looked through the window to see the little park.
“Why would anyone wanna eat under such ugly trees filled with insects if there is a very nice and neat restaurant across the street?” Lion-boy asked. He made a disgusting face at these words, as if he someone made him eat the insects he just talked about. Lucy started liking him a little more.
“No outside-boys?” She smiled at them. Cap-guy shook his head.
“Nope, we hate it.”
“Perfect!” Lucy wanted to go back to the kitchen, but again, she turned immediately. She took something from the pocket of her apron and gave it to the guy with the messy hair.
“Here, comb your hair,” she said.

PART 5: SILLY, BUT SWEET

Lucy brought the guys the waffles that Barry made.
“They’re delicious, you were absolutely right!” Lion-boy said with the most thankful smile Lucy had ever seen. Actually, she didn’t think he was that weird anymore, he was quite nice.
“Yes, indeed, I could eat a hundred of them!” Cap-guy added. Okay, he was the exaggerator. This was the kind of guy that would say he slept with 25 women when he had seen one naked breast.
“Thanks!” Lucy said.
“Did you make them?” Cap-guy asked, with one eye almost closed.
“No, but still... I thank you in the name of the restaurant.” She wanted to sigh again. It started to become a really bad habit, all the sighing.
At that moment, the big, muscled guy came over to the table. He ignored Lucy and just started talking to the guys.
“I’m sorry, boys. The bus won’t be fixed today. Someone went looking for the right pieces and will hopefully return before darkness. But anyway, we won’t be leaving today. If you wanna get a room in the bed-and-breakfast, that’s okay with me, you don’t have to sleep in the bus. There is no electricity right now, so it might be easier if you just...”
“Okay, we’ll get a room,” Lion-boy said. His smile was all ruined and he looked a little worried. The big guy just nodded and walked away. He seemed really sorry for disappointing Lion-boy.
Lion-boy looked at his friends and sighed.
“Jeez, guys, this was supposed to be our weekend off, and now we’re stuck in the middle of nowhere!” He banged his fist on the table.
“Indeed! I was planning on making this the memorable weekend of flirtmaster, but no... I’ll just go dance with those two ugly trees” Another angry fist banged on the table. Lucy hoped the wood would be strong enough for the other 2 fists.
“Easy, guys,” the boy with the now fresh-combed hair said. “It’s just one night, we won’t be dying over here.”
“But I was just looking forward to having fun today, very much...” Lucy almost felt sorry for Lion-boy. He looked like a little girl that could start crying every second. Silly, but sweet.
“Maybe we can find some teenagers that can tell us if there’s anything funny over here,” normal boy suggested. Cap-guy put his eyes on Lucy again.
“Wait a minute, you’re a teenager!” he said, pointing at her, as if he just invented a time machine. ‘Wow, great’ Lucy thought, ‘that’s how I wanna spend my evening, entertaining guys with weird hair.’ She didn’t say anything, but she felt that her cheeks were becoming a little red.
“Do you know a place where four attractive guys like us are can hang out? Of course you can come too!” Cap-guy said. He winked at her. Lucy cleared her throat and fought the blushing.
“No, I’m sorry... Like I said, there’s nothing over here. And besides, I have to take care of the twins tonight.”
“You have twins??” Lion-boy asked with his eyes wide open.
“Yes, but they’re not mine, they’re my little brothers. They’re six years old,” Lucy answered.
“Identical twins?”
“Yes.” Lion-boy got over-excited now.
“Cool! Just like Tom and I! Can we see them?” He clapped his hands.
‘Who the hell is Tom?’ Lucy wondered. Then she looked at Cap-guy. From Cap-guy her eyes went back to Lion-boy and then back to Cap-guy. Now she saw it! Cap-guy was Tom!
“Not now, they are napping upstairs. Some other time... maybe.” Lucy was confused. Lion-boy’s enthusiasm was overwhelming. She didn’t know these guys and now they wanted to see her little brothers. Very weird.
The guys started talking to each other again. After a minute Lucy realised that she was still standing next to their table, but it didn’t seem to bother them.
She was just about to go away when she saw four pairs of eyes staring at her.
“What’s your name, Ginger?” Cap-guy, sorry, Tom asked. He sounded as if he repeated his question for the hundredth time.
“Ow, sorry, I was just... my name is Lucy,” she said, still confused. She punched herself really hard in the arm behind her back. That would get her attention to the subject!
“Nice to meet you, Lucy, my name is Bill,” Lion-boy said. He extended his hand and she shook it. Bill... what a common, yet weird name. Lucy didn’t like bills, most of the time she didn’t have enough money to pay them, she hoped this one would be a little cheaper...
Lucy shook the hands of the other boys too. The fresh-combed-hair-guy was called Georg and normal boy was Gustav.
“Are you all brothers?” Lucy asked. Tom started laughing hysterically.
“Have you even seen Georg? Do you think that creature is my brother? No, Bill and I are brothers, Gustav is a friend and Georg is our pet. If you go for a walk with him every day, he doesn’t pee in the living room,” he said. God, he was mean! But Georg didn’t seem to care. He just looked a little shy at Lucy and smiled.
“He isn’t over puberty yet...” he said apologising for his so-called friend’s behaviour.
“How old are you?” Bill asked Lucy.
“18, just like you,” she answered a little self-satisfied.
“How do you know I’m 18?” He looked a little scared at once, as if he was afraid that Lucy knew more things about him. She didn’t get his weird reaction and started laughing. She pointed at the tattoo on his left arm.
“Freedom ’89. I guess that doesn’t stand for an escape from prison, does it?” The others started laughing and Bill sighed relieved.
“Oh, no, you’re right. I always forget I have this tattoo. I just got it a few months ago... birthday present for myself, you see...”
“Oh, that’s nice,” Lucy said politely, though she thought it was very stupid idea to spoil a whole forearm on a birthday present.
“I think we better get going, guys,” Gustav said at once. “If we want a room in the bed-and-breakfast, we have to go there and ask for one, that’s the way it goes when no-one arranged it for you.”
“Yeah, you’re right.” The others got up too and they headed for the door.
“See you, Lucy! It was nice meeting you,” Georg said. “And thanks for the comb.” He showed it to her, but he didn’t give it back. Well yeah, Barry didn’t have that much hair to comb anyway...

PART 6: YOU WANTED CHICKS, TOM?

“Weird guys, very weird guys...” Lucy was murmuring when she got back into the kitchen.
“What did they do?” Barry asked.
“Nothing... It’s just... they give me a weird feeling...” She couldn’t really explain it.
“What do you mean? Do you like them?”
“Yes and no... They’re nice, at least some of them are, but there is something weird about them. They’re not like other teenagers... They seem more... adult?” She hoped Barry could give her the right word. He wanted to say something, but she just remembered what Tom had said about Georg being a pet.
“No! Not adult!” she corrected herself, “more... hmmm... apparently they have jobs, they said they had a weekend off. And the older guys seem to care a lot about them.” Lucy stopped talking. What was she saying? Why was there something wrong with the guys? She didn’t know... she just had this weird feeling...

“It’s six o’clock, Luce, you’re working day is over,” her dad said. Yeah, as if... Now she had to go upstairs and watch the twins for the rest of the day. Lucy sighed, took off her apron and disappeared from the kitchen.

When she got in the living room, she saw her two little brothers watching television with Melanie.
“How have they been today?” Lucy asked. Melanie turned, a little frightened by the sudden noise of Lucy’s voice.
“Oh, they’ve been very good actually. Haven’t you?” she asked the boys. They nodded. God, they were cute when they were good. They just sat there with their small, dark-blond heads pointed at the television. They were watching Spongebob. Though they didn’t get most of the jokes yet, the yellow sponge made them laugh every 10 seconds.
“How was your day?” Melanie asked. Lucy smiled. She didn’t want to bother her little cousin with the stories of her sad life.
“Quite alright. We had some very funny clients today.”
“Tell me!” Melanie sat on her knees on the couch and leaned on the back.
“Oh, there’s not much to tell, they just had very weird hair, I gave them a comb,” Lucy said. Melanie laughed.
“I’m gonna make us dinner right now, I’m making spaghetti, okay?”
“Sure, I’ll help you, the twins won’t run away, they’re obsessed by that stupid sponge.” Melanie jumped out of the couch and headed for the kitchen, following Lucy, who wasn’t so excited for being in a kitchen AGAIN!

At the same time, in the building next to Mary’s grocery store...

“So, here’s the key to your room. You can have breakfast from 7 until 11.30 tomorrow. Have a good night!” The woman smiled. She gave Tom the key to their room. ‘Bad luck, AGAIN!’ he thought when he looked in the definitely 40-years-old eyes of the receptionist. This would not become the night he had dreamed about. It made him mad... He had worked very hard these last weeks, he deserved a small adventure! But no... instead of a young, blonde girl, Georg would be snoring in his room tonight. Since the Bed-and-Breakfast didn’t have that many rooms, the guys had decided to take one room for the four of them, so the members of the crew would get the smaller rooms. That would become a hell of a night...

Their room was on the second floor.
“Let’s take the elevator! Oh, wait, no! THERE ISN’T ONE!” Tom said sarcastically. He rolled his eyes and started climbing the stairs, making as much noise as he could with his feet.
“Will you stop that?” Bill said annoyed. He didn’t like this either, and when he didn’t like something, he didn’t need a lot to become mad. Gustav and Georg already smelled a fresh fight coming their way.

When they finally got to their room, Bill opened the door and looked inside.
“Our bags aren’t here yet,” he said sighing, but before he had even finished his sentence, he realised his bags wouldn’t be coming here without his help tonight. GRRR! They hadn’t even packed yet. The bus was still filled with Georg’s clothes and Bill’s stupid accessories, just lying about everywhere.
“We’ll get the bags later,” Gustav said, “let’s have a look inside the room first.”
They all went inside the room and were surprised. This was not what they had expected... not at all!

No luxury, no television, no leather couch, no Jacuzzi and no lock on the door of the bathroom. Tom hated that!
“I like it,” Georg said after staring for 2 minutes. “It’s different, but it looks really... cosy!” The others had to agree, though Tom didn’t like admitting it. The room was quite nice. It had bunk beds, which wasn’t that great, because they would be fighting over the upper beds again. But on the beds were sheets with blue and green flowers. Flowers were girly, but blue and green were unisex, so that wouldn’t be a problem. On the walls were some beautiful, old-fashioned paintings. One of the paintings had a mill on it, another one an old church and a third one had a little farm with a cow and chickens on it. Gustav looked at the last painting and smiled.
“You wanted chicks, Tom?” No answer.
Bill sat down on the couch. It was even softer than it had seemed.
“I guess we’ll survive the room... But what about food? This is a bed-and-breakfast, not a bed-and-dinner. And I’m really hungry,” Bill complained. He rubbed his stomach.
“How can you be hungry? You just ate a huge waffle!” Gustav said.
“Yeah, I know, but-“
“He just wants to go back to the restaurant to flirt with that girl.” Georg said, answering for Bill, which Bill didn’t like.
“No! I didn’t even like her!” He said. It seemed like his hair was standing even more upright when he got mad.
“Of course you did, she said she liked your tattoo!” Tom said. He smiled. Teasing Bill always made him feel better.
“I don’t like her. I hate it when girls pretend they don’t know us just to become friends with us.” Right there! He said it. Tom looked at his brother with his mouth wide open.
“What are you saying? Of course she didn’t know us! How could she know us? They won’t sell our cd’s at that stupid grocery store with the ugly trees!”
“No, but... I just got the feeling she wasn’t who she pretended to be,” Bill said. He thought about the words he just said. What did he mean by them? Even he didn’t know it.
“Bi-ill,” Tom said, “she gave Georg a comb! She’s a nice girl. I like her.” End of the conversation. As usual, it was Bill against the other three. Though he really was convinced of his own right, he didn’t wanna talk about it anymore. He would just go back tonight and find out if that Lucy-girl really was who she pretended to be...

PART 7: ALWAYS READY TO HELP A FRIEND

9.30 pm. The twins went to bed 2 hours ago and Lucy and Melanie were watching a dvd. The restaurant would close at 11, maybe even a little later today because a lot of the bus-people were having dinner there right now. Barry had come to ask if Lucy could help them a little more, but after seeing she was very tired, Barry decided he didn’t need her help after all.
“You should get some rest!” he had said. “It’s been way too long since you’ve had a day off.” He went back as quickly as he could. Lucy felt sorry for him, but she didn’t go downstairs. She really was too tired.
“I’m going to bed,” Melanie said. Lucy wanted to go to bed too, but she also wanted to wait for her father and Barry. She decided to lay down on the couch and sleep a little until her father and Barry got back. It didn’t take long for her to completely forget everything about this world.

“I’m tired,” Georg said. He yawned. The others gave him an annoyed look. They so wanted to do something, no matter what, but there was just nothing to do in this stupid not-even-hotel room. They had just picked up their stuff in the bus. That was what had made Georg so tired: looking through the whole bus to find some clean boxers.
“I wish I was tired too...” Tom sighed. He yawned too, but just from boredom. Bill jumped out of the couch, so sudden, that the others almost fell from it.
“God, Bill! What’s wrong with you?” Gustav yelled.
“Sorry, guys. I’m going to the restaurant. I’m still hungry.”
“Hungry for Lucy?” Tom asked. Bill rolled his eyes.
“No! I don’t like her that way, she’s not-”
“Not male enough?” Tom interrupted his brother, causing Gustav and Georg to start laughing hysterically. Bill got mad, he got mad every time they made fun of him. He was not gay and they knew it. As if it wasn’t bad enough that the press kept selling cheap stories about him... He couldn’t stand his friends talking to him like that. Especially not his brother.
“Well,” Bill took a deep breath and looked at the others. “If you think I’m gay, then come over here and kiss me!” Tom wanted to laugh, but he saw his brother wasn’t being funny.
“What? Don’t you think I’m cute enough?” Bill asked when he didn’t get a reaction. After another 20 silent seconds, Georg got out of his chair.
“Well, okay, if nobody else wants to...” He shrugged and walked towards Bill, but Bill turned his face immediately.
“What, are you sick?! You fucking-” He didn’t finish his sentence, but just opened the door and ran away as fast as he could. Georg looked at Gustav and they started laughing their heads off.
“Were you really gonna...” Gustav asked. Georg shrugged again.
“Always ready to help a friend!” Now they almost died. They didn’t see that Tom wasn’t laughing anymore.
“You shouldn’t make fun of him being gay all the time. We all know he isn’t, but it’s still a dangerous subject.” Georg nodded, but he didn’t seem very convinced of Tom’s right. After all, Tom was the one who had started teasing Bill.

Barry was serving drinks to the clients. This wasn’t the kind of job he liked doing, not AT ALL! But someone had to do it and since Lucy was so tired, he had sacrificed himself. Robert was in the kitchen, making dessert for the clients. Jeez, they had been stressed when about 20 bus-people had entered the restaurant. They weren’t used to this amount of clients. Barry and Robert had started cooking like fools. Luckily they had been able to serve them all. Now it was almost time for their dessert. Barry hoped they wouldn’t stay that long afterwards, he was very tired, but the bus-people seemed to be having a lot of fun. Yeah, whatever. At least they made quite a lot of money today.

At once, the little bell rang. The dude with the weird hair was standing there, a little confused.
“Bill! What are you doing here?” The big muscled guy asked.
“Euhm... I’m just picking up some waffles... You know Tom wants to have waffles every day...” He walked right to the kitchen, without even looking at the bus-people. Were they his family? Barry couldn’t see another man with lion-hair who could have been Bill’s father. Maybe friends? Too old. Well, yeah... It didn’t really matter, it was just weird.

Bill entered the kitchen.
“Hello,” he said to a guy who was making something that smelled like tiramisu. Bill would have liked some, but that was not what he was here for. Maybe he could have some later. The guy turned immediately, dropping the spoon he had been using.
“What- what are you doing here?” He asked. He picked up the spoon and looked at the young man standing in his kitchen. Why? Why? Why? God, he was stressed. He couldn’t think normal anymore.
“I’m here to see Lucy,” Bill said politely.
“Why?”
“I just wanna talk to her. I met her this afternoon in the restaurant and she said I could come over some time... If that’s not a problem.” Bill added quickly.
You always have more chance for a yes when you’re polite. Gustav taught him that. Gustav was right.
“Well... she’s upstairs.” Robert said. He put the spoon back in the tiramisu without cleaning it.
‘No tiramisu for me,’ Bill thought. Robert pointed at a door in the back of the kitchen.

Bill smiled and walked through the door. He climbed the stairs. It was so obvious that these people knew who he was. That cook had just dropped a spoon when he saw Bill. Obviously intimidated. There was only one door upstairs. Bill knocked on it, but he didn’t get an answer. After 2 more knocks, he just opened it himself and entered the room...

PART 8: YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING...

Bill walked inside the living room. It was quite small, but not at all empty. There was too much stuff for such a small place and the furniture definitely didn’t match. It made Bill feel depressed. He didn’t like the place. He would never admit it, but he really liked structure. He couldn’t stand mess at all. Except for his own mess of course. No, this wasn’t the kind of house he could see himself living in.

Lucy was still asleep. She was dreaming. Everything was fine again. Her mother was standing next to her, they were watching the twins together. Her father was taking pictures. Everyone was laughing. This felt good. Too good. It felt... like a dream.

Lucy was smiling. Bill smiled too. It was funny to see people smile or make weird faces when they were sleeping. Lucy was probably having a nice dream. He was happy for her, but he still wanted to wake her up. He sat down on the couch next to her legs and softly touched her arm.
“Lucy... wake up,” he whispered.

A bee was flying around. It landed on Lucy’s arm. She didn’t panic. The bee just stayed and slowly tripped from her elbow to her shoulder... and back... and back... and back... She didn’t try to push it away, it was nice.
“Lucy,” her mom said. Lucy turned to her.
“Yes, mom?.”
“Lucy... wake up!”

*HUH?*

Lucy opened her eyes and screamed. She stopped immediately, realising Melanie and the twins were sleeping. What the hell- What was Lion-boy doing here? She looked at the bee on her arm and saw it was his hand. She immediately pulled her arm back. Her heart was still beating like a hyperactive watch. There were nicer things than waking up with Simba rubbing your arm.
“What- what are YOU doing here?”
“Shhh... It’s okay. I just wanna talk,” Bill said. He stood up and held his hands in a defending position in front of him, probably thinking the Lucy he just woke up could cause him serious damage. Lucy yawned. Why? Why? Why was he here?
“I’m sorry I scared you,” Bill said with the softest voice ever. He seemed to mean it.
“Well... Why do you wanna talk to me?” Lucy asked. She was mad at him, very mad, but she didn’t see the point in fighting him. She knew she could beat him, though.
“It’s just... I have to ask you something,” Bill said. He hesitated for a moment.
“You have to be honest with me, alright?” Lucy almost saw the !!!’s in his eyes. ‘Watch out, Lucy, watch out!’ they said.
“Okay then...” She shrugged. Bill looked at her and sighed.
“Do you know me?” he asked. What kind of question was that? Do you know me? Did he have to wake her up for that? Lucy wanted to laugh, but she saw the seriousness on his face.
“Euhm... I met you today at the restaurant, but I don’t really know you...”
“You had never seen me before?” Lucy shook her head.
“Nope.” Bill sighed again. He seemed relieved. What the hell was going on with that guy?

Bill was relieved. He sighed. Lucy was safe. He could talk to her like a normal person. He could be totally infamous around her. For once, Tom had been right and Bill didn’t mind.
“Good, very good,” he said. He started moving his feet. He was nervous and ashamed of himself, Lucy must think he was crazy. He just entered her living room to ask if she knew him, so he couldn’t blame her for thinking he was weird... What should he say now?
“Can I see the twins?” he asked.
“They’re sleeping,” Lucy said.
“Oh..” Long, painful silence. Bill wanted to talk, but he didn’t know about what. He saw Lucy was yawning again, so he decided it would be better if he just left.
“I think I’m gonna leave now, I see you’re tired.” He smiled.
“Well, okay.” Lucy started walking towards the door to open it for him.
“I guess I’ll see you tomorrow?”

*FLASH*

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOEEEE

“What-” Lucy walked to the window and looked outside.
“You gotta be kidding...” she whispered. It was raining like hell. She sighed while she was looking at the thunder-storm. Bill stood next to her and started singing very softly.

*...beyond the world, to the end of time, where the rain won’t hurt... fighting the storm, into the blue... and when I-*

“What are you singing?” Lucy asked. She thought it was pretty funny that weird guy just started singing at the sight of a flash of lightning. His voice was quite nice, but probably too soft to become a real singer. Bill stopped singing immediately and looked as if he just got caught killing a cat.
“Nothing, just a song I heard,” he said. Jeez, he really should stop singing Monsoon every time it was raining.
“You sing quite well,” Lucy said. Bill smiled.
“Thanks.” He looked a little shy. It made Lucy smile too.
“I guess I can’t let you go through that storm... Maybe you should just stay here?” She didn’t like offering him to stat, but was there a choice? After all, he wasn’t that bad. Just a little... thoughtless.
“That would be very nice of you, if you let me stay,” Bill said. The others would probably be worried about him, but they deserved it. And above all, he wouldn’t be bothered by Georg’s ‘loud breathing’.

PART 9: IT'S OKAY, YOU CAN CRY

Tom was worried. His little brother still wasn’t back. It was already 11.30. Gustav and Georg were playing some stupid card game they had invented themselves. It was called “Pointless” and it was boring. Tom didn’t like playing the cards, so he had been listening to his mp3-player all night. But now the batteries were empty. He wanted to change his empty batteries with Georg’s full ones, but he had already done that yesterday.
“I put this one in the safe,” Georg said.
“Okay, and I trade this one,” Gustav answered. How could they be playing that stupid game over and over again? It sucked! Tom didn’t understand the rules of it, so it sucked even more.
“Hey, guys, did you realise it’s almost midnight and Bill still isn’t back?” Tom asked after another attempt of understanding the point of the game. Georg instinctively looked at his arm to check, but there was nothing there.
“Dude, are you stupid? You don’t HAVE a watch!” Tom yelled, quite irritated by the clumsiness of Georg and the absence of his brother.
“Chill, man! It’s raining like hell! Do you expect Bill to risk destroying his haircut if he can stay in a nice and cosy restaurant?” Gustav asked. Tom shook his head, but he wasn’t happy.
“I should have gone too... then I wouldn’t be stuck in a small boring room with two card nerds right now...” he murmured. He sat down on his bed and started humming a song the other two didn’t know. Probably some German rap song. He always ‘sang’ rap songs when he was angry. It made him feel cool. Gustav and Georg ignored Tom and continued playing their game.
“King of hearts!” Gustav yelled.
“Damn it! I have the queen...” Georg said, banging his fist on the table. They went on for hours, but Bill didn’t come back...

“What are we gonna do?” Bill asked. He sat on the couch and made himself feel comfortable. Just now he noticed the piano in the corner of the living room, behind a large pile of toys.
“Ooooh! A piano! Can I play?” he cried, even before Lucy could answer his previous question.
“No, the twins are sleeping.” She rolled her eyes. How stupid could one person be?
“Ow yeah,” Bill sighed. He shut up just long enough for Lucy to sit down on the couch too.
“Tell me a little more about the twins,” he said. Lucy saw the fascination in his eyes. It made her smile.
“Euh, well... they’re my little brothers, they’re six years old-”
“What are their names?”
“William and Donald.”
“Cute.” Another long silence. Bill didn’t know what to ask and Lucy didn’t talk without being asked something, she just was too tired.
“Our parents got divorced when Tom and I were six years old...” Bill said very softly.
“I’m sorry about that,” Lucy said.
“Bwoa, we survived it. Our stepdad is quite nice.” Bill smiled.
“How about your parents? Is the guy in the kitchen your father?” he asked. Lucy nodded.
“Yes, he is.”
“And the younger guy, is he your brother?”
“Cousin.”
“Ah, okay... How about your mom?” Lucy looked at her hands. This was a difficult question for her. A little painful, but somehow she thought she could trust Bill. She took a deep breath and started talking.
“My mother died of cancer last year...” she said. She didn’t look at Bill, she couldn’t stand seeing the pity in someone’s eyes anymore.
“I’m so, so sorry,” Bill said. He looked at his own hands and shut up, because he couldn’t think of anything comforting to say.
“It’s okay, I guess. I miss her very much, but she’s in a better place now...” Lucy felt her eyes burning. God, no! She couldn’t start crying right now. What would Bill be thinking of her.

Lucy started sobbing. Bill saw she was trying not to, but it didn’t exactly work. Bill felt so sorry for her. He came a little closer and put his arm around her shoulders, very carefully. He feared she would slap him in the face or push his arm away, but luckily she didn’t.
“It’s okay, you can cry,” Bill whispered. Lucy still didn’t want to, but she couldn’t hold her tears back.
“Oh, now I’m crying, great...” she said, still sobbing. Bill held her a little tighter.
“It’s okay...” he said again. They sat there for about 10 minutes. Lucy was thinking of her mother and crying very softly and Bill was thinking about crying with her.
“It’s just... The twins don’t even seem to remember mom... They don’t talk about her anymore. They have forgotten their own mother...” Lucy said.
“Shhh, they haven’t forgotten her. Nobody can ever forget his mother.”
Lucy looked up and saw that his eyes were a little wet too, he was not really crying, but she could see he could have cried if he wanted to. Sweet, but also a little weird. He didn’t even know her.
Suddenly realising where Bill’s arm was, Lucy removed it from her shoulders and got up.
“I really have to go to bed right now,” she said. She looked around the living room, as if she was looking for something. It was still raining outside, so Bill would have to stay.
“There’s a camp-bed in Barry’s room,” she said. “You can sleep there if you want to.” Bill nodded.
“Okay, that’s all fine with me.” He followed Lucy to Barry’s room, where there was nothing more than a very large cupboard and a bed. Lucy took the camp-bed out of the cupboard and started setting it up. Bill would have helped her, if he had only know how to do that. Now he was watching it, he realised it was not that complicated after all. When she was ready, Lucy took a sleeping-bag out of the cupboard and threw it at Bill.
“That will be fine,” she said. Bill wasn’t so sure, he didn’t like sleeping-bags, they made him feel like the inside of a worm. He needed space. A lot of space. But he didn’t complain. Lucy had been so nice to him. He just nodded and Lucy wanted to leave the room. He stopped her by putting his hand on her shoulder.
“Lucy, thanks a lot for letting me stay here, I really appreciate it,” he said. Lucy smiled.
“And thank you for the great talk. You’re a wonderful listener,” she said before leaving the room.

Lucy went to bed. It didn’t even take her a minute to fall asleep. She felt she would be dreaming again, but at once her almost-dream was disturbed by the sound of an opening door. She looked up and saw Lion-boy standing next to her bed...

PART 10: TIME TO GET OUR SINGER BACK

“I’m sorry to bother you, but do you happen to have some make-up-remover?” Bill whispered. Lucy sighed and got up.
“I’m really sorry, but if I fall asleep with my make-up still on my face, I will be all black and ugly tomorrow.” Yeah, whatever? What are you, a girl? Lucy walked out of her bedroom. When she put on the lights in the living room, she saw that Bill was just wearing boxers and a t-shirt. God, he was skinny... His white legs had probably never seen daylight and they were scary. Lucy went into the bathroom and gave her remover to Bill without saying a word. After that she went straight back to bed and fell asleep within 10 seconds.

Gustav woke up quite early. He hadn’t slept very well because Tom had been tossing about all night, worrying about Bill.
“He still isn’t back,” he had said at 3am. “It stopped raining and I heard the others come back, but Bill still isn’t here.” Gustav and Georg had sighed, knowing Bill would probably stay at Lucy’s place until the morning. They had said that about a million times, but Tom didn’t listen. He only complained, but didn’t wait for the answer... so typical...

It was 7am and Gustav got out of his bed. Bill still wasn’t back and now Gustav started worrying too. Not because he thought there was something wrong, just because Tom kept asking for his brother. The stupid thing was: when Tom woke up to ask Gustav where Bill was, Tom would immediately go back to sleep, but Gustav stayed awake. He was a bad sleeper. He didn’t sleep long and he didn’t sleep soundly. Sometimes he didn’t even sleep at all.

Gustav took a shower and got dressed. When he was ready, he wanted to do something useful. Unfortunately, there wasn’t anything he could do. He had to be very quiet because Tom and Georg were still sleeping and would probably stay like that for another 4 or 5 hours. Gustav stood right in front of Georg’s bed, trying to find out how his friend produced such weird noises at night. There wasn’t anything interesting about watching Georg snore, so Gustav got bored very quickly. He put on his jacket and left the room.
“Time to get our singer back,” he said to himself as he ran down the stairs. He went outside and crossed the street...

Bill woke up in a very uncomfortable bed he didn’t know. He felt claustrophobic and wanted to start panicking, but then he realised he was just lying in a sleeping-bag. He got out as fast as he could and looked around in the room. It was quite dark, but there were some rays of sunshine shining through the dark curtains. It was a very sunny morning. Bill saw a boy sleeping in another bed in the room. He didn’t recognize him at first, but after a second look he saw it was the boy from the restaurant. Lucy’s cousin.

As if he felt Bill was staring at him, Barry opened his eyes. He didn’t really like seeing Lion-boy in his bedroom. What was he doing here anyway? Was he Lucy’s new boyfriend? Lucy hadn’t said anything about a friend sleeping over, so it had been quite a shock for Barry when he walked into his bedroom yesterday night and found a stranger sleeping in a camp-bed. It wasn’t nice to wake up and see him standing there either...
“What are you doing here?” Barry asked.
“It was raining so hard that Lucy let me stay here for the night. I would have been soaking wet if I went outside yesterday,” Lion-boy explained.
“Oh, okay...” Well, yeah, if it was fine with Lucy, the boy couldn’t be that bad.
“I am Barry, nice to meet you,” Barry said, though he didn’t really mean the nice-part. He decided being friendly would be better in this case.
“I am Bill. Thanks for letting me sleep here tonight.”
“No problem.” Barry smiled. He hadn’t really had a choice...

“Good morning!” Robert said when Lucy entered the living room. She smiled, and muttered a reply. She gave the twins a kiss on the cheek. They were sitting at the breakfast table, trying to eat a sandwich in the most disgusting way possible. They did that every morning. Mom used to tell them not to, but Robert didn’t bother. Lucy or Melanie would get them new clothes and clean up the mess, it was not his problem. Lucy watched her little brothers and made a painful face. Donald was making little sandwich-balls and William was putting the balls in his nose. It wasn’t pretty...
“Will, don’t put these things in your nose, that’s what your mouth is for. And Don, that’s food, no clay!” They both shrugged at the same moment, but Donald stopped making balls and William breathed out through his nose, causing a yellow, slimy ball to fall on his plate. Lucy immediately took the plate, before her little brother would start eating the snot-ball.
“You’re both disgusting, do you know that?” she said. The twins started giggling. It made Lucy smile, even though she knew she shouldn’t laugh at this behaviour.
“Haha, they’re cute!” Lucy heard someone say. She looked at the door of Barry’s bedroom and saw Bill standing there. He was still here... Lucy had totally forgotten about him. She even hadn’t told her father yet.
“Euhm, dad, this is Bill, it was raining very hard yesterday, so I let him stay... I hope that’s okay?” Robert looked at Bill for a moment, trying to decide whether he could stay or not. God, that kid looked weird. Robert had never seen hair like that. Yesterday it had been a little lion-like, but today it was just the untidiest hair he had ever seen.
“Yeah, no problem...” he said. The boy was here already, so why say it wasn’t okay? He hadn’t caused any trouble. Lucy smiled, a little relieved. She had expected her father not to care, but she hadn’t been totally certain.
“Take a seat and eat something,” Lucy said to Bill. He nodded and sat down next to Donald, who had started making sandwich-balls again.
“What are you doing, little guy?” he asked the kid. Donald immediately stopped making balls again and looked at Bill with the most surprised face ever. He clearly didn’t know whether he had to laugh or cry. He glanced at his brother. As always, William had to decide if Bill was good or bad. Luckily, William smiled a little uncertain, causing his brother to join him. Bill smiled too, a little less uncertain.
“Lucy, they’re so cute!” he said. They reminded him of himself and his brother when they were that age. William and Donald had dark blonde hair, just like Tom and Bill had before Bill started dyeing his hair. The twins had long, curly hair. They probably hadn’t got a haircut since their mother had died. Poor boys.

Barry entered the living room.
“Isn’t Melanie awake yet?” he asked.
“No,” Lucy answered.
“Why not?”
“She was very tired yesterday, let her have some sleep.”
“But we have to start working in an hour, she has to get ready too!”
Lucy sighed.
“Okay, okay... I’ll wake her up...” She walked into the bedroom she shared with her cousin.
“Does Melanie work in the restaurant too?” Bill asked Barry.
“Oh, no, she has to watch the twins. We need Lucy in the restaurant, especially now, with your bus-people eating here...” Barry answered.
“We’re probably leaving in a few hours, if the bus is fixed,” Bill said.
“Oh... that’s great...” Barry said, though he sounded a little disappointed.
“Does Melanie take care of the twins every day?” Bill asked.
“No, not in the weekends. We’re going home tonight and we’ll come back Sunday evening.”
“But doesn’t she have to go to school?” Barry sighed.
“Yeah... but she doesn’t go. She’s been studying at home since aunt Lisa died. We need her over here. She has to do exams sometimes. There’s some system... Maybe you heard about it?” Bill nodded. He knew exactly what Barry was talking about.

Lucy came out of her bedroom, followed by a very young, dark-haired girl in pyjama’s. She was rubbing her face, evidently still tired. She looked up and saw Bill, but she didn’t ask any questions. Neither did she say ‘good morning’. She just took a sandwich and started eating it.
“Good morning, Mel,” Barry said, but he didn’t seem to expect an answer.

A bell rang.
“I hope it’s not those bus-people yet,” Robert said. Barry walked towards some kind of phone next to the door.
“Who’s there?”
“I’m Gustav and I’m looking for Bill, is he there?” Barry sighed and pushed a button.
“Come in...”

PART 11: DID YOU HAVE OTHER PLANS WITH ME?

Barry opened the door and Gustav entered the living room. He looked around for a few seconds and then he let his eyes rest on Bill. Was his friend having breakfast here, in this weird, crowded living room, only wearing boxers and a t-shirt? Yes, he was...
“Hey, Gustav!” Bill said. He was a bit surprised to see the drummer here, but he didn’t show it. Gustav seemed confused. He came a little closer, obviously not certain what to do or say next.
“Euhm, good morning everyone...” he said quietly.
“Good morning!” Lucy said. She smiled. She liked Gustav’s politeness and modesty. He had been the only normal one when she met the four guys yesterday. She wouldn’t forget her first impression, though she had been totally wrong about Bill...

Gustav looked around again. An old man, probably Lucy’s dad... Lucy, she was nice... a dark-haired boy... a young girl, she looked tired... Bill... yeah, Bill was just as Bill as always... kids... hey! Kids! Gustav smiled. He liked kids. Kids were always honest. Oh, they were twins, of course. Lucy had talked about them yesterday. Gustav had always been forced by ‘some’ friends to like twins.
“Would you like a sandwich?” Lucy asked. Gustav didn’t answer immediately.
“Come on! Free food!” Bill cried out while he put a big piece of bread in his mouth. Disgusting... The twins looked at Bill, then looked at each other and started giggling. Bill saw it and smiled, glad the kids liked him, no matter why they did...
Gustav sat down and took a sandwich too. He was hungry. He hadn’t eaten anything since the waffles except for a box of chocolate candy he had found in the bus.

“I’m off to the restaurant,” Barry said. He put on his coat and left the room. Robert got up and walked towards the door too. Before leaving he turned to Lucy.
“I want to see you in the restaurant in about 20 minutes, Luce.” He winked at her, but it didn’t make Lucy any happier.
“Oh, do you have to work all day?” Bill asked disappointed. Lucy saw it and laughed.
“Yeah, sure. Did you have other plans with me?” She pinched him softly in his shoulder. Iew, it felt like pinching an iron bar.
“No, it’s just-” His cheeks were a little red.
“We- we have to leave in a few hours, so I won’t see you again today,” Bill said quickly.
‘Nice safe...’ Gustav thought. He smiled.
“We ARE leaving in a few hours, aren’t we?” Bill asked. He glanced at Gustav. Gustav shrugged.
“I guess so... I haven’t seen anyone of the crew yet today.” Silence. Lucy started cleaning up the mess the twins had made. She whispered some things at them and looked at Melanie, without getting response. Melanie was a zombie today...
“Let’s check...” Bill said after a while.
“Check what?” Gustav asked.
“If we’re leaving today. Call David.”
“Call Dav- why? They will be-”
“Go on! Just call him!” Gustav didn’t feel like he had a choice... He remembered a funny movie they saw on youtube once. ‘Bill is the boss!’ it said. They had all laughed at that, but apparently, some of it was true... Gustav took his phone and wanted to dial David’s number, but he stopped at once. He glanced at Bill, who was looking at him with a weird enthusiasm in his eyes.
“Bill, what’s going on, mate?” he asked. “Do you wanna stay here?” No answer. Gustav got a little closer to Bill.
“For her?” he whispered, looking at Lucy. Bill shook his head very slowly, then sighed and nodded.
“Why?”
“She needs help...”
“Why?”
“I can’t tell... I just wanna stay one more day, okay?” He sounded irritated. Gustav shrugged.
“Fine with me, but you will have to tell your brother. He won’t be happy if he hears he’s not getting a girl today...”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah! I know! Tom’s perfect plan won’t be working today! Who cares?” Gustav’s mouth almost fell open. Bill never talked about Tom like that. He decided it would be better for him to shut up. He put a sandwich in his mouth and said nothing until he finished it.

“What are we gonna do today, Melly?” William asked. He looked hopeful at his cousin. Melanie sighed. She didn’t really feel like playing with these kids anymore. She was still tired... Very tired...
“Can we play castle?” Donald asked. His eyes were glimmering. Lucy smiled. Melanie just looked a little hurt, but she didn’t say anything.
“How do you play castle?” Bill asked. Donald looked at him again. Hmm, this was the funny guy who couldn’t eat properly either.
“We are knights!” William yelled.
“Sounds cool!”
“Yeah! And Melly is the princess!”
“I am sure Melly is a very good princess,” Bill said. He smiled at Melanie. She smiled back, but it wasn’t a happy smile...
“And what happens if you play castle?” Gustav asked.
“A dragon comes and eats all the candy!” Donald cried. He looked a little scared when he just thought about the dragon.
“Oh, and who plays the dragon?” Bill asked.
“Barry! Or daddy... But they’re not playing today...” William said. He looked a little disappointed. Bill started smiling even more.
‘Oh, no...’ Gustav thought. He knew that look on Bill’s face. He sighed and started preparing himself mentally for a good game of ‘castle’.

PART 12: YOU'RE UNBELIEVABLE, THOMAS

Tom opened his eyes. It was still quite early, 8.15 in the morning. Not too early for a working day, but this was their weekend off. Tom smiled. Tonight he would have some fun in the city. He couldn’t wait to get on the bus again. He wanted to close his eyes again, when he saw Bill’s bed was empty. It looked like it hadn’t even been slept in. Jeez, he didn’t come back at all! Gustav was gone too. Well, yeah, he was probably having breakfast, he was an early riser. Tom got out of his bed and yawned. Georg was still sleeping. Tom was a little annoyed by waking up and having no-one to complain to, so he pushed Georg. Georg just moved a little and whispered “Mom..” Tom pushed him again, a little harder now.
“It’s Tom, with a T, you wuss..” Georg still didn’t wake up, he only made a snoring sound. Tom sighed and shook his head. He’d better get dressed and go look for his brother. He took a shower and got dressed very quickly. He was a little worried about Bill. What if he didn’t go to Lucy yesterday?

Bill sat behind the couch and pretended to be a dragon. The twins were chasing him. Gustav sat on the couch, laughing. He wanted to play too, but he was a little shy and felt too old for playing castle. But Donald had other plans. He pointed his invisible sword at Gustav and shouted “hands up!!” Gustav raised his hands.
“Wow, what did I do wrong?” he asked.
“You’re an ugly dragon!” Donald shouted.
“Raaaaah!” He ran towards Gustav and pretended to hit him with the sword. Gustav put both his hands on the wound and made dying-noises. Donald laughed and Gustav continued ‘dying’. Then he stopped, fell down and closed his eyes. Donald’s smile disappeared immediately. He looked a little worried. He touched Gustav’s head very carefully. He still didn’t move. Lucy saw the tears welling up in her little brother’s eyes. Donald pushed Gustav a little harder, but he still didn’t get up.
“Luciiiieee!” he cried. Lucy smiled.
“He’s just pretending, Don. I think he will wake up if you tickle him.” The moment when William heard the word ‘tickle’, he stopped chasing Bill and jumped on the couch to tickle Gustav’s feet. Gustav started laughing very loud. He got up immediately and started chasing the twins. Lucy smiled. ‘The game has started,’ she thought. She placed the dirty plates next to the sink and put what was left of the sandwiches in the little cupboard under the sink.
“I have to leave,” she said. The twins ran towards her, gave her a kiss and a hug (it seemed to be some kind of routine) and went back to their ‘castle’. Lucy smiled at Bill, saying ‘thank you’ without words. Bill understood and nodded.
‘He’s a nice guy,’ Lucy thought when she closed the door behind her. ‘I was totally wrong about him.’

Barry and Lucy’s dad were working very hard already.
“But there are no clients yet!” Lucy said, not understanding what was going on.
“I know, but the guys from the bus said they would come here for breakfast,” Robert said.
“But they’re staying at a bed-and-breakfast!”
“Not all of them, some slept in the bus tonight. Do you know what’s up with them? They seem to be on the road quite a lot.” Lucy shrugged. She hadn’t even thought about it yet.
“Maybe they’re some kind of circus,” Barry said. Robert laughed. Lucy knew Barry meant to say that Bill looked like a clown or a lion or some other circus-thing. She didn’t laugh. Not anymore.

The bell rang. Robert went into the restaurant.
“Is Bill here?” Lucy heard. That must be another one.
Tom entered the kitchen.
“Hey, Lucy,” he said. Lucy only faked a smile. Tom had called her ‘Ginger’ yesterday, she didn’t forgive him yet.
“Bill is upstairs,” she said. Tom nodded and went upstairs.

“What the hell are you doing?” Melanie had just opened the door and a guy with dreadlocks and a dress-like t-shirt was standing there. He was looking at the other two, who were lying on the floor, pretending to be sea monsters.
“Hey, Tom!” Bill said. “Look, this is MY twin brother,” he said to the young twins. William and Donald looked at Tom, it was clear they didn’t like him.
“He’s not your twin brother, he doesn’t look like you!” William yelled. Bill laughed.
“He looks like me, you just can’t see it anymore, but when we were young-” Donald interrupted him:
“Why is he wearing a dress?” Bill and Gustav almost died from laughter. The young twins looked so innocent when they asked their questions. It was just übercute.
“This is not a dress,” Tom said, pointing at his own t-shirt. “It’s a very long t-shirt so when I lose my pants, you can’t see my-”
“Tom!” Bill screamed. “You, bad-mannered fucked up mess, these are young kids, you don’t use words like that in front of them!” Tom started grinning.
“Sorry, bro, I was just answering their questions...”
“You’re really unbelievable sometimes, Thomas.” Gustav tried not to laugh, but he failed. Bill calling Tom Thomas was just too funny. It wasn’t even Tom’s real name, Bill just did it because people in English movies used longer names when they were mad. He didn’t really understand that these were their real names. No-one ever bothered to tell Bill, so he kept inventing new names when he was mad.
‘Thomas’ just wanted to say something when his phone started ringing.
“Tom here... yeah... we’re at the restaurant... okay, we’re coming immediately!” Tom smiled.
“David wants to see us, I think we’re ready to go on the road again.” He looked satisfied. He didn’t see Gustav’s worried face and Bill’s sad eyes...

PART 13: LET'S GET TO THE POINT...

*99 Luftballons, auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont*

Georg woke up immediately, his heart beating incontrollable. What was happening? He looked around the room and saw that the sound was coming from Bill’s phone, which was lying on the table. Apparently Bill had forgotten to take his phone with him when he left yesterday. Georg sighed. Stupid ringtone. Bill had it since he bought his first cell-phone. Never changing it made him able to recognize his own sound wherever he was. Kinda smart actually... Georg changed his ringtone every two weeks and he never realised it when someone called him.

*Hielt man für UFO’s aus dem All*

Georg jumped out of his bed and picked up Bill’s phone. He knew he wasn’t allowed to, but there was no-one here and he wanted the annoying sound to stop. “Georg here,” he said. He didn’t bother about the ‘Listing’, everyone knew who he was when he just said Georg.
“Hello Georg, David here. Isn’t Bill there?”
“No, I think he’s gone for a walk.” Georg didn’t want David to be worried about Bill.
“And the others? Are they there?” Though he knew they weren’t, Georg looked at the empty beds again.
“No, they went with Bill...” This wasn’t a lie. He really had no idea where Gustav and Tom were.
“Oh, okay... well... I’ll just call Tom or Gustav then. I just wanted to say that I wanna meet you guys downstairs in 15 minutes.”
“Sure, I’ll be there.” Georg put Bill’s phone down and sighed. ‘Where the fuck are they?’ he asked himself. He went to the bathroom and took a shower, very quickly because he knew David was waiting downstairs. When he got dressed, he left the room and closed the door behind him.

Tom was standing next to the door. He had already opened it.
“Are you coming or not?” he asked Bill and Gustav. He saw them look at each other, but they didn’t answer.
“We have to go...” Gustav said eventually. Bill nodded.
“Yes, we have to go,” he repeated, trying to convince himself. “We’ll be back in a while, Melanie, will you be able to handle the little guys?” Melanie nodded. She didn’t seem to care about Bill returning or not. She didn’t seem to care about anything at all! Bill and Gustav walked towards the open door.
“Hey! You can’t go! You’re a dragon!” William yelled, pulling at Bill’s shirt.
“I’m not a dragon, I’m a kraken... And I will come back, I just have to talk to someone right now.”
“But you’re coming back afterwards?” William asked in a trembling voice. It made Bill’s heart melt.
“Sure, I’ll be back before you know it.”
“Bill...” Tom said, a little annoyed. He wasn’t staying. Bill could try, but he wouldn’t convince him. Not this time.

David was waiting outside, Georg was standing next to him.
“What took you so long? Georg was here before you!” David asked.
“What, long? We came immediately!” Tom said. Georg grinned.
“I was here before you,” he said, as if he didn’t believe it himself.
“Well, alright,” David said. “Let’s get to the point.” He sighed.
“You’re not gonna like this... well, our bus can’t be fixed immediately, we’ll have to take it to a garage...”
“What?!” Tom screamed. “You mean we have to stay here?” David smiled.
“No, of course not. We can just take a cab to go to the hotel, if you want to. But I warn you, it will take about 8 hours to get there and I don’t wanna know how long it will take the cab to get here... We were supposed to arrive at the hotel yesterday night, but if we call a cab right now, we might get there before midnight.”
“Let’s do that!” Tom yelled. He didn’t give Bill the time to answer, because he knew his little brother had other plans.
“When will the bus be fixed?” Gustav asked.
“It’s supposed to be back here Monday morning.”
“Is there enough time to get to the city for the concert if we leave Monday morning?”
“What!?” Tom screamed again. “You wanna stay here the whole weekend? There’s nothing here. NOTHING!” Gustav shrugged.
“I’m just asking. I really prefer travelling by bus. I don’t wanna spend 8 hours in a cab. So, David, how about Monday morning?” David stared at Gustav, obviously surprised. He didn’t get why a 19-year-old would wanna spend his weekend off in the middle of nowhere.
“The show is on Tuesday, so if we leave Monday morning, we have enough time for the sound-check...”
“Let’s do that!” Bill yelled now. David sighed.
“We can go to a hotel a little closer, there’s a city about 3 hours from here,” he said, but Bill shook his head.
“No, I like the bed-and-breakfast, let’s stay.”
“How can you like the bed-and-breakfast? You slept at Lucy’s tonight!” Tom yelled. Bill gave him a I’m-gonna-kill-you-if-you-don’t-do-it-yourself-look.
“You what?!” David became slightly red. “You just slept with a stranger and stayed there for the night?!”
“No! I didn’t sleep with her!” Bill screamed.
“Man, that makes you look better...” Tom said sarcastically. Bill sighed. He was about to lose it.
“I just stayed there because it was raining very hard,” Bill defended himself. Tom laughed.
“Yeah, sure.” The twins looked at each other. They looked like they could just kill each other right now. Georg put his hand on Bill’s shoulder, just as a precaution. Tom thought Georg meant to say he agreed with Bill.
“Great, now you’re on his side too...” Tom turned and wanted to walk away, back to their room.
“Tom, wait!” David yelled. Sometimes these kids could be so annoying...
“If you really want to-” Tom shook his head and kept on walking.
“I’ll stay, it’s alright!” He screamed. But they all knew it was not alright.
David shrugged and looked at the other 3.
“Why do you wanna stay?” he asked Bill. “Is it about a girl again?”
“No... yeah... you know this girl from the restaurant, Lucy, she’s having a very hard time right now. Her mother died last year and she has 2 little twin-brothers and no-one ever has the time to play with them, and it’s just...” He stopped talking and sighed himself.
“I don’t know, I just feel like I HAVE to stay here right now.”
David nodded. He didn’t totally understand, but Bill always listened to what his feelings told him and most of the time, that was a good thing.
“Okay, then we’ll stay,” he said. He looked a little sad. He would have preferred going to the closest city too.
“Oh, but you can go to the city if you want to,” Bill said, as if he could read David’s mind.
“Yeah, we’re all adults, we can take care of ourselves!” Gustav said. Somehow, that made David smile.
“We’ll see, guys. Maybe we’re going to the city today. We can take Tom with us if he wants to come. Anyway, wherever we are going, Saki is staying here. Even though no-one knows you here, we can’t take any risks.”
Gustav nodded. That sounded reasonable. David looked at the 3 boys, but they didn’t say anything.
“Okay. I guess everything’s fine now. I’m going back to my room.”

“Poor Saki,” Georg said when David left. “He’s gonna have to stay here with us.”
“Yeah,” Bill said absently. “And poor Tom, he was so looking forward to a night with the ladies...” Bill felt really bad for his brother, it was all his fault.
“Dude, you should talk to him, or he’ll be pissed the whole weekend.” Gustav said. Bill nodded. They all knew how ‘lovely’ Tom was when he was mad.

But Tom wasn’t mad, he had a plan...

PART 14: NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT...

Tom went back to the room. He shut the door so brutally that the painting of the chickens almost fell off. Okay, Bill had what he wanted. They would stay here for the weekend. Fine. But then Tom got to do whatever he wanted too. Oh, yeah. Tom opened his big bag. God, why did he always take so many caps with him, he could hardly find- Oh, there it was. Tom took a yellow teddy out of his bag. He smiled at it. Bill always made fun of him having a teddy, but that was only because Bill didn’t know the secret of the yellow bear. It had been a present from a fan once, when they just got famous. Tom had immediately seen that the teddy had a secret, so he had kept it. He had even given it a name: ‘Playboy’. Bill had said about a million times that he was being totally wrong and disgusting to give a yellow teddy a name like that, but once again: Bill didn’t know the secret of ‘Playboy’...

“Come on, let’s go back to Lucy’s,” Bill said. He clapped his hands together and started walking back towards the restaurant. He didn’t wait for an answer.
“What, aren’t you gonna talk to your brother first?” Georg asked, a little worried.
“Yeah, sure. Just not now. He’s mad, let him cool down for a while. I’ll go there in 30 minutes.”
“I think you should go now!” Georg said. He didn’t follow Bill. Bill noticed, so he stopped and turned around, looking at Georg as if he was some stubborn and annoying kid. ‘Jeez, they even share their anger...’ Georg thought.
“If you care so much about Tom, why don’t you just go over there and comfort him yourself?” Bill said. He started walking again. Gustav just followed him, but he looked at Georg. ‘Please come with us,’ his eyes said. Georg sighed. Gustav was right, there was no need to discuss with Bill. They both knew that couldn’t end well...

Tom started undressing ‘Playboy’. Actually, ‘Playboy’ only wore a small, pink t-shirt, so it didn’t take Tom a lot of time to undress him.
“Playboy, my dear, give me the pleasure I need,” Tom whispered when he opened the back of his teddy. Aha, paradise...

Bill and Gustav entered the restaurant, causing the little bell to ring again. An unhappy-looking Georg walked in a few seconds later.
“What’s up?” Lucy asked.
“We have to stay until Monday morning,” Bill said. He sighed.
“The bus can’t be fixed immediately.”
“Oh, that sucks...” Lucy said, though she didn’t really mind.
“Yeah...” the actor said. Georg could just hit him right in the face, but he didn’t.
“What are you gonna do here?” Lucy asked.
“We’ll just help Melanie take care of the twins, I guess...” Bill said.
“I’ll help you in the restaurant, Lucy!” Georg said at once. He looked at Lucy. He didn’t like her that much. She was nice, but she had spoiled their weekend off. He could better help her with something useful instead of getting annoyed by Bill all day.
“That’s a great idea!” Bill said. He fake-smiled at Georg and pulled Gustav with him towards the kitchen. Gustav looked at Georg and shrugged.
“Nothing you can do about it,” he said.
“Oh, you SO can!” Georg whispered, more to himself than to Gustav.

Tom was playing with a small picture. There was a pretty blonde girl on it. Tom looked at her, deciding whether she was good enough or not. Hmm, she had nice eyes, curves were okay... He turned the picture around and read the words on the back. “Alice, 18 years old...” he whispered. That sounded about alright. Tom smiled and stared at the phone number. Would she be the lucky one?

“Kiddies, we’re back!” Bill screamed when he opened the door to the apartment again.
“Oh my God, what exploded in here?” Gustav said. He looked around and saw nothing but mess. Even more mess than before. And noise, there was a lot of noise. Gustav immediately found the sound of the noise, it was Donald. He was playing the piano. Or at least, he was attempting to play the piano. William obviously didn’t like his brother’s moment of fame and he was throwing cornflakes at him. Donald didn’t seem to mind, he just kept on ‘playing’.
Bill looked around, wondering where Melanie was. It didn’t take him very long to find her, she was just lying on the couch, sleeping.

The phone... where was the phone? There had to be a phone in this room... Oh, there it was, on the wall next to the door. Tom smiled and walked towards the phone. He dialled Alice’s number and waited. After a few seconds, someone picked up.
“Alice,” a very girly, but cute voice said.
“Hey, Alice. It’s Tom,”
“Tom who?”
“Tom Kaulitz.”
“Yeah, sure...”

*Beep-beep-beep*

Tom looked at the phone, astonished. Things like this made him so angry... Why did that b*tch even give him his phone number if she didn’t want to talk to him when he called her? He muttered some curses and opened his teddy’s back again.

Georg followed Lucy to the kitchen.
“You don’t have to help me if you don’t want to, I can perfectly handle this.” She smiled. Georg was pretty nice for wanting to help her.
“No, we will have to stay here all weekend, so I’d better help you a little over here,” he said. A dark-haired boy walked into the kitchen.
“Oh, another one?” he asked. Lucy nodded.
“This is Georg, he wants to help us here today. Their bus won’t be fixed before Monday.”
“Jeez, that sucks for you,” Barry said in a serious voice. Georg shrugged.
“Yeah, but it’s not that bad. We have a weekend off, it actually doesn’t matter where we go.” Georg smiled. Barry saw his smile was a little fake. That guy probably had other plans. Somehow he just knew that Lion-boy spoiled it all for Georg. Barry felt sorry for him, he seemed to be a very nice guy.
“Melanie and I are going back to the city tonight, you guys can come with us if you want to. And Lucy can come too of course. You’ll just have to take a cab to return at night.”
“Oh, I don’t know about that,” Lucy said, even before Georg could answer.
“Come on, Luce, you hardly ever go out! You really deserve it to go away for a night. I’m sure Georg will keep an eye on you.” Barry looked hopeful at Georg. Well, if this was his way of helping Lucy, Georg wouldn’t say no.
“Sure, I’ll keep an eye on her.” He smiled when he saw Lucy getting a little red and uncomfortable. Maybe this weekend wasn’t gonna be that awful after all.

Tom had taken another picture out of the bear. This time there was a tall girl with dark brown hair smiling at him. Her face wasn’t that pretty, but her body was okay. Besides, she was dressed up quite slutty, so she probably wouldn’t say no to him. Her name was Elly. Tom dialled her number and waited, but she didn’t pick up her phone. Tom didn’t feel like talking to her voice mail, so he just hung up the phone and sighed.

“You’re back!” William yelled when he saw Bill and Gustav. He hugged Bill’s left leg.
“Did you make all this mess?” Bill asked.
“No...” William said, but he couldn’t hold back a smile.
“Little weirdo,” Bill laughed, while he patted the kid on the head. Who was to be blamed for this? The kids? They were only six... Melanie? She was only about twice the age of the twins. She couldn’t really be blamed for being twelve and tired... Bill sighed and started putting the cornflakes back in the box. Gustav had lifted up Melanie and put her back in her bed.
“That poor child didn’t even wake up from the noise of that piano,” he said to Bill. They put the coffee table back in its right place. The twins had even turned it upside-down.
“It’s a boat!” William yelled when he saw his ship being destroyed by Bill and Gustav.
“Yeah, and now it has sunk, too bad,” Gustav said a little annoyed.
“And tell your brother to stop that noise!”
Donald immediately stopped playing.
“Where is your brother?” he asked Bill.
“At the bed-and-breakfast,” Bill said.
“Will you ask him to play with us?”
“He’s a little angry...” Bill sighed.
“But I wanna play with him, he has very funny hair!” Donald screamed.
“Okay then, I’ll get him. You’ll just wait here with Gustav, okay?” Bill walked towards the door. Maybe he could better talk to Tom right now, like Georg wanted. He would never admit Georg was right, though.

“Susan, 20 years old... that’s gonna be the lucky one, I just know it!” Tom said to the picture of a very tanned, blonde girl with vivid blue eyes. She was a little older than him, but that wouldn’t be a problem. He dialled her number and waited...
The door flew open.
“Tom, I just... Are you calling mom?”
“Bill, can’t you knock before you walk in?” Tom’s heart was beating about a hundred times faster than it usually did.
“Hello, this is Susan,” he heard.
“Who are you calling?” Bill asked.
“Hello... who is this?” Tom had to make a decision, very quickly.
“Tom Kaulitz!” He yelled at the phone. Then he looked up at his brother, who was looking very confused.
“Who is that, Tom?” Bill repeated.
“No one...”
“Tom, is that really you?” a very surprised voice asked.
“Yes, it’s really me!”
“Wow, I never thought-”
“Who is this?” Bill had taken the phone out of his brother’s hands and was now talking to Susan. Tom jumped up and wanted to take it back, but Bill pushed him back in his chair.
“Euhm... I’m Susan... Is that you, Bill?” Bill covered the phone with his hand.
“Who the hell is that?” He asked Tom. Tom shrugged. He saw Bill was about to hang up the phone.
“2 TREES AND A BUSH! AT MIDNIGHT!!!” He yelled at once, making sure Susan heard it.

PART 15: BYE-BYE WEEKEND OFF

“What the hell were you thinking?” Bill yelled at his brother. He turned slightly red. It was very hard for him not to completely freak out. Tom was mad too, but he knew how to stay calm much better than Bill did.
“I’m just trying to have a little fun too...” Tom said in a small voice.
Bill hit the wall with his fist, something he did quite often when he was angry. It hurt, but somehow the pain made him feel better.
“You’re being selfish, Tom, what do you think is gonna happen when the paparazzi find out where we are?” Tom rolled his eyes.
“They’re not gonna find us! I just asked some girl to come over and have a little fun with me! You’re the one being selfish, letting me spend my weekend off in a boring room with two card-game freaks!”
“My God, Tom, you are so naive! Do you really think that girl is gonna come here alone? She’ll probably bring an entire fan-club. Bye-bye weekend off!”
“Why are you so upset? She won’t even come! How is she gonna find me when I didn’t even say where I am?” Tom pointed at his own forehead, showing Bill he was being crazy.
“You said 2 trees and a bush! If she lives anywhere in the neighbourhood, she’ll probably know this place, don’t you think?” Bill yelled. He stood right in front of his brother, looking him in the eyes. Tom turned his head and shrugged. He didn’t show Bill the pictures that he kept in his teddy. He didn’t have to tell Bill he knew were Susan lived and that it wasn’t very far from ‘2 Trees and a Bush’. Tom wasn’t stupid, he had only called girls who lived not too far from where he was. That was the advantage of writing addresses on the back of pictures when he received them. Most of the pictures had been included in fan letters, so he had just copied the address from the envelope.
“What do you have there?” Bill asked. Oops, he saw ‘Playboy’. Tom tried to hide it and whispered “nothing,” but Bill was too fast. He took Tom’s wrists and forced him to show him the bear.
“What?” was the only thing Bill could say. Bill always knew what was going on with Tom, but today he was weird... Why was he holding his yellow bear?
“I felt sad,” Tom said. He tried to look as pathetic as possible. Bill just nodded. He didn’t even want to know more about the special bond between Tom and his teddy. Both twins shut up for a few minutes, thinking about their mistakes. They knew they were both wrong and right at the same time, so it was quite hard to blame the other one. At last, Tom broke the silence.
“How are things going with Lucy, did you kiss her yet?” Bill looked as if he just got hit in the face.
“Oh, Bill, don’t be such a wuss, I know what’s going on! Why else would you wanna stay here?”
“I just wanna help Lucy and her brothers! They lost their mother last year, do you think that’s easy?”
“And how do you think you’re gonna help her?” Tom asked. He had calmed down a little and was now willing to listen to his Bill’s story. Bill felt the tension had almost gone away and sat down next to his brother.
“I don’t know...” he said. He had thought about that too, but he didn’t find a solution yet. He buried his face in his hands, pretending he was gonna cry just to make Tom feel sorry for him. Tom knew the trick and sighed, but he also patted Bill on the shoulder.
“Okay, if she’s that important to you, I’ll try to help too,” he whispered. Bill smiled weakly.
“Thanks, bro, I only wish I knew how.”
“Yeah, a signature won’t be enough this time...”

“Georg! What are you doing?” Lucy yelled. She just entered the kitchen and smelled something that shouldn’t be there. An innocent-looking Georg looked up from his pan.
“I’m making pudding, like you asked me.” Lucy sighed. ‘Don’t get mad, don’t get mad,’ she told herself.
“Yeah, but it’s not supposed to smell like that, you know, you were supposed to stir it!”
“Oh... oops,” Georg said. Lucy took the pan and threw the mess in sink.
“You’ve never done this before, have you?” Lucy asked. She smiled when she saw the look on Georg’s face. He was sorry, she could tell that. Poor guy...
“No, I really didn’t. Most of the time, we let Gustav cook, he’s a lot better. But I can bake eggs and pancakes!” he added quickly.
“It’s alright, I shouldn’t have let you do this, it’s my job. We’ll start over and I’ll show you how you’re supposed to make pudding.”
“Okay, sure.” Lucy took a new pan. They didn’t have that much time. Robert and Barry went to the city to buy new ingredients and they wouldn’t be back soon, so Lucy had to do everything herself. With the very ‘useful’ help of Georg, of course...

*Ting!*

Tom and Bill entered the restaurant, both looking a little tired and unhappy. Lucy came out of the kitchen, followed by Georg.
“Hello, guys,” Lucy said.
“You know what?” Georg screamed, even before the twins had the chance to say ‘hello’.
“Hmm, you’ve gone through some ‘changes’?” Tom guessed, pointing at the apron Georg was wearing. Georg shook his head very quickly. He was obviously excited.
“We’re going to the city tonight! Barry is going there and we can go too. Isn’t that great?” He glanced at Tom, who didn’t really seem to care.
“Yeah, we ain’t going...” Bill said. He put his hand on Tom’s shoulder as if he wanted to make sure he wasn’t running away.
“Why not?” Georg asked. He was disappointed, he had expected them to be a little more enthusiastic about his news.
“Tom can’t, he has ‘other plans’. Ain’t that right, Tommiboy?” Tom felt his anger coming back, but he tried to ignore it. Bill could be such an ass...
“Indeed, I don’t feel like going to the city tonight. I’m sorry, Georg...” he said. Georg shrugged. He didn’t get these guys. At first Tom had wanted nothing but going to the city and now he said he didn’t feel like going. Whatever...
“Well, don’t be sorry, I’m going anyway! Gustav probably wants to come too. Oh, and Lucy of course. Someone asked me to keep an eye on her.” Georg started grinning.
“Oh, that sounds really cool,” Bill said, though he didn’t seem to like the idea of Lucy going out with Gustav and Georg.
“I guess that leaves me and Tom here to watch the twins, doesn’t it?” he asked. Lucy smiled.
“That would be great! My dad will be here too, you know, but he’ll probably still be working in the restaurant and when he’s done he will be all tired...” She shook her head. Why was her life so frustrating?
“How about we already start our duty right now?” Bill said, “These poor kids have been stuck in that messy room with Gustav for over an hour now!”
Lucy nodded. God, she couldn’t have met any nicer guys than these weird-hair-boys. It made her feel good, really good. She could hardly give them anything more than friendship and maybe some food, but they gave her everything she needed right now. If this was a story, it would have made her cry of happiness, but this was real life. Lucy didn’t cry in real life, not often anyway. She had cried yesterday evening when she told Bill about her mother, but before that it had been at least 10 months ago since she last cried. Somehow Bill had made her emotions come back. It had helped her, it really had.
“Bill, wait!” Lucy said when Bill and Tom walked through the kitchen to get to the stairs. Bill turned immediately.
“Yeah?”
“Well... I didn’t say thank you yet for the great talk we had yesterday...” she said. Bill smiled.
“I have to thank YOU! You let me stay over. I won’t forget that.” Lucy smiled too.
“But still... I really appreciate how you’re trying to help us out by taking care of my brothers. I’m sure Melanie is really glad too, even though she doesn’t say it.”
“I know, Lucy.” Bill put his arms around Lucy and hugged her.
“It’s all gonna be fine,” he whispered in her ear. Lucy felt warm and happy for one single moment. Now she knew Bill was right, it was all gonna be fine...

PART 16: NICE, CLUMSY AND A TAD YELLOW

Gustav sat down on the couch for 2 seconds and sighed. Damn, these kids were hard to handle... They had way too much energy and they just didn’t shut up for one single moment. Gustav could see how Melanie got so depressed.
“Gustav! You have to find us!” William yelled from behind the couch.
“I didn’t count to ten yet!”
“You don’t have to, we’re already gone!”
“Well, okay then...” Gustav got up and pretended to look for the twins. Of course he started with the places where he knew they weren’t hiding. He heard two loud giggles when he looked under the table. Eventually, he ‘found’ William behind the couch and Donald under the piano.
“You are bad at this game!” Donald yelled because it had taken Gustav 10 minutes to find them.
“Do you ever play hide-and-seek with your friends?” William asked.
“Well... actually... no, never,” Gustav admitted.
“Never?!” Donald’s eyes looked as if they could fall out of his head any moment.
“You should really do it more often! It’s so funny!” William said. Gustav smiled. He liked the kids. Twins were cute. At least, some twins were cute.

Bill and Tom entered the living room without knocking. That was kinda typical for the twins: they always felt like being home immediately, so they acted like it.
“Gustav, we’re here!” Bill yelled.
“Shh! Can’t you be a little calmer, Melanie’s sleeping, remember?” Bill shrugged. It would probably take a lot more to wake Sleeping Beauty right now.
“Oh, Tom...” Gustav said when he saw Tom. He obviously didn’t know what to say. He wasn’t mad at Tom, but he knew Tom was mad at him. After all, Gustav had helped Bill convince David.
“Yeah, it’s fine,” Tom said a little rude. He let himself fall down on the couch.
“Boo!” He jumped up immediately when a little curly-haired head appeared next to him. William giggled at Tom’s reaction.
“I scared you!” the little guy said, pointing proudly at the boy with the dress.
“No, you didn’t scare me, I was just-”
“He scared you!” Donald said, standing next to his twin and pointing too. They started giggling at the same time. It made Tom feel better.
“Yeah, whatever. It seems like we’re gonna be stuck with you guys for the whole weekend, so what do you wanna do?”
“The whole weekend?” Donald’s eyes got really big. To the young twins a weekend sounded like forever. They started jumping around and yelling.
“Be quiet! Melanie sleeps!” Gustav tried again, but without any results.
“Let’s play hide-and-seek!” William suggested. Bill looked at Tom with his weird what-do-you-think-look. Tom softly shook his head.
“No, I’m not gonna-”
“Okay!” Bill said. He clapped his hands together. “Who’s gonna count? Gustav?” Gustav shook his head.
“No, I think I’m going downstairs. Maybe I can help Georg and Lucy in the kitchen...” Bill nodded.
“Yeah, you’re right. It’s kinda sad that he’s alone with her while we’re playing around with the kids.”
“You just don’t want Lucy to be alone with Georg,” Tom said. He sat down on the couch again and was staring in front of him. Bill looked at his brother like he just got hit in the face.
“What? No! Gustav suggested it!” he shouted. Tom just avoided his gaze.
“I know, but you don’t mind letting him go, do you? You think he’ll keep an eye on them.”
“No, I don’t!” Bill yelled. He hated it when Tom was unreasonable.
“Jeez, Bill, I know you like her! You don’t have to deny it! You were just hugging her five minutes ago!” Tom said.
“She was sad, I just made her feel better! By the way, if I like her that much, then why am I here upstairs with you and our little clones?” Silence. Tom had to think about that.
“Just because you don’t want me to-”
“Guys! Cut – it – out, will you? Seriously, I’m wondering which twins are more mature. Are you sure I can leave you alone without a babysitter?” Gustav asked. He got really irritated by the twins fighting all the time. He knew they could get on each other’s nerves, but did they really have to share their misery with the rest of the world?
Bill and Tom both looked quite ashamed.
“Sorry Gustav,” they said, almost at the same time. Gustav nodded and turned around, glad he could leave the twins behind.

When the door was closed again, Tom finally looked at the younger twins, their clones as Bill had just called them. Now he thought of it, William and Donald were quite similar to them when they were that age. Though Tom and Bill didn’t have curly hair.
The two young boys were staring at their babysitters with fear and uncertainty in their eyes. They both instinctively took a step in each other’s direction.
“Why are you fighting?” William asked. The disappointed look on their faces made Bill feel very bad.
“I’m so sorry about that, but we aren’t fighting now,” he said. It didn’t seem to comfort them.
“We weren’t fighting!” Tom said in a raised voice. “We were just acting, like you do all the time!” He smiled, which made the young twins (and Bill) a little curious.
“Come on, we were just pretending to be fighting to tease Gustav,” he said. William and Donald didn’t seem to understand it yet and to be honest, neither did Bill. It just didn’t make sense!
“You pretend to be knights all the time, why can’t we pretend to be fighting? We were just playing a little game, ain’t that right, Bill?” Tom looked at Bill with a very weird look on his face. Luckily Bill knew exactly what the look meant.
“Yeah, Tom’s right. It’s a game we play from time to time. Really one of my favourites...” The twins were too young to recognize sarcasm, so they just smiled at Bill and the dress-boy.
“Are we gonna play hide-and-seek now?” Bill asked.
“Okay,” Donald said happily, but his twin interrupted him.
“Why don’t we go visit Eleonora?” he proposed.
“Yeah, let’s do that!” Donald screamed. Bill and Tom looked at each other.
‘I have no idea...’ their dark eyes said.

“Oh, Gustav, thank God!” Lucy said when she saw the normal guy entering her kitchen.
“I’m trying to teach Georg how to make pudding but he’s-”
“Hopeless?” Gustav finished the sentence, grinning when he looked at his clumsy friend.
“Well... yeah.” Lucy shrugged. She didn’t want to blame Georg for anything, but he was just really hopeless.
“I told you I’m sorry a million times, Lucy. I just don’t seem to be dropped on this planet for making pudding,” Georg said.
“Just let me do that, Spongebob,” Gustav said. He had made it a habit calling Georg Spongebob when he did something stupid ever since they had watched a few of the cartoons together. He had immediately noticed the wonderful resemblances between Georg and the sponge: nice, clumsy and a tad yellow.
Gustav started stirring the pudding correctly.
“I could have done that,” Georg said.
“Then why didn’t you?”
“I didn’t know it was that easy...” He looked a little sad, like a kid whose toy had been taken away.
“Shouldn’t the bus-guys be here for breakfast right now?” Lucy asked. Georg and Gustav looked at each other and both shrugged.
“They stay at a bed-and-breakfast,” Gustav said.
“I know, but some of them slept in one of the buses and they said they were coming here for breakfast.”
“Oh, really? Maybe I should go to the buses and wake them up?” Georg suggested. “They wake me up every day, so today I can finally do something for them in return.” He smiled. Lucy nodded.
“Okay, it would be nice to know if I have to prepare breakfast or not.”
“Well, you should do it anyway, I haven’t eaten yet,” Georg said, rubbing his stomach. Lucy laughed.
“Yeah, and you’re glad you don’t have to make breakfast yourself, aren’t you?”
“You got me!”

Georg walked out of the restaurant. It was very warm outside. He didn’t notice that before because he was too busy trying not to hit Bill. He even had to cover his eyes to defend them from the sunlight. At once he heard familiar laughter and talking. He looked around, but saw nobody on the parking lot. It didn’t come from one of the buses either. Georg looked across the street and saw what he had feared. The bus-guys also known as the crew of Tokio Hotel, were sitting on the benches in front of Mary’s grocery store, all of them laughing and enjoying a sandwich. David and Saki weren’t there, they slept at the bed-and-breakfast of course, but even without the most important men, there were quite a lot of people sitting under the two trees, next to the bush.
“This is ridiculous,” Georg whispered. He clenched his fists and walked towards ‘his’ crew.
“Good morning, Georg! Do you wanna join us?” a guy called Stefan yelled when he saw his favourite bassist coming over. Georg had to admit his stomach liked the offer, but his mind was set on helping Lucy.
“No, thanks. What are you doing here?”
“Having breakfast!” He showed Georg his sandwich, as if he didn’t see that already. Georg rolled his eyes.
“I know, but why aren’t you eating at the restaurant like you said you would?”
“Well, my dear Georg, the sun shines so bright. I prefer eating outside and enjoying the pleasures of nature on a beautiful morning like this one.” He pretended to inhale the smell of ‘outside’. It made Georg angry.
“But you promised you would eat there! They prepared food for you!”
“I’m sorry, but we just preferred eating here, that’s all.”
“Oh, you’re so NOT sorry!”
“Yeah, you’re right, I’m not.” Stefan laughed and some other stupid people joined in. Georg turned around and started walking back to the restaurant.
“Oh, Georg!” he heard. “Why are you wearing an apron?”
Crazy laughter followed him until he entered the restaurant again.
‘Stupid technician,’ he thought, ‘just go fix my bus and drive me home!’ If only Georg had the power to fire people...

PART 17: SHE LIKES YOU

“They’re not coming!” Georg screamed when he got back into the kitchen.
“Why not?” Lucy’s face looked worried and shocked. Georg sighed. He didn’t want to be the one to disappoint her.
“They’re eating under the 2 trees across the street. Apparently there’s something exciting about that place.” Lucy sighed too. She was used to it. She had hoped it would be different now, but it wasn’t. Why couldn’t it just start raining again?
“Well, I guess I’ll just have to make breakfast for you, then…” Lucy said, throwing a sad look at Georg.
“Oh, you don’t have to…” Georg said, but Lucy heard his stomach was thinking something else.
“I don’t mind,” she said, smiling at the growling sound.
“I’m really sorry, Lucy,” Gustav said. He looked up from the pudding, which was almost ready.
“It’s okay. I just hope they’ll eat here tonight, otherwise my dad and Barry went to the city for nothing.”
“I’ll make sure they will!” Georg said, banging his fist on the table. Lucy thought it looked kind of cute when Georg pretended to be angry. He just didn’t seem like the type of guy that got nerved quickly.
“Yeah, I’m sure you will,” Lucy laughed. She just couldn’t resist…
“Hah! Are you making fun of me?” Georg asked in a fake threatening voice. He took a peach from a bowl that stood on the table and threw it at Lucy’s arm. She screamed.
“I can’t believe you did that! Are you crazy?” She took an apple from the bowl and hit Georg with it. Georg burst into laughter and answered the question with an orange, which hit Gustav because Lucy dived. The pudding-prince didn’t just take this and reacted with a banana, which hit Georg right in the face.

In no time, the whole kitchen looked like one giant fruit shake. Lucy stood in the middle of it, breathing heavily with a big smile on her face. The first real smile in almost a year.
“That was fun!” She said.
“Did you never do a food-fight before?” Georg asked. Lucy shook her head, obviously still enjoying the new experience.
“But you live in a restaurant!” Gustav shouted, astonished.
“Yeah, I know, it’s just…” She shrugged. “I never enjoyed being in the kitchen as much as I do now.” Georg and Gustav looked at each other and smiled satisfied. Bill would be glad to hear this.
“You’re coming tonight, aren’t you?” Lucy asked Gustav. Gustav looked a little confused, but his buddy was already answering for him.
“Of course he’s coming!” Georg patted Gustav on the back.
“Good!” Lucy said. She looked around her and started giggling. “Oh my God, I just can’t believe we made such a mess. Daddy will be so mad.” The thought of her father made her darken her smile a little, but it didn’t take it all away.
“Come on, let’s start cleaning!” Gustav said. He didn’t like mess, and he liked it even less when Georg made it.

“So what exactly are we doing here?” Bill asked. He and Tom had just followed the younger twins to the garden. They had walked through the kitchen, where something seemed to have exploded and then they had entered the small garden behind the restaurant. Apparently no one ever cared about the garden and Bill had to admit that you could hardly even see it because of all the huge bushes and weeds.
“We’re gonna visit Eleonora!” Donald yelled excited. He had taken some old bread, cornflakes and cheese from the apartment and was now chewing on a small piece of bread as they walked through the jungle. What they saw behind the bushes was not what Tom and Bill had expected. Not at all.

Bill shook his head in disbelief when he saw two yellow eyes staring quite uninterested at him. The eyes belonged to a fat, dirty goat.
“Is THIS Eleonora?” Tom asked rather unnecessarily. William nodded.
“We’ve had her for more than two years. Mom used to make cheese from the milk.” Bill blinked at these words. Williams had actually talked about his mother, which proved he hadn’t forgotten her. Tom didn’t notice it, he just continued staring at the goat, which wasn’t even white anymore. Apparently the poor animal ate everything that didn’t get sold at the restaurant. At least, that was what it looked like.
William and Donald stood next to the goat, stroking it softly on the head and the back. But the goat didn’t pay attention to them. It seemed to be interested in nothing but Tom. Tom’s cap to be precise. The goat just kept looking up at the grass-green cap which was floating on some fresh straw.
“She likes you! Eleonora likes you!” William yelled when he saw his goat staring at the boy with the dress.
“Yeah! You should stroke her! She really likes that!” Donald said enthusiastically. Tom shrugged. He didn’t like the idea of touching a goat. But he didn’t want to disappoint the little guys, so he came a little closer and carefully touched the head of the goat. To Tom’s surprise it didn’t feel soft at all. He wondered what was so special about the goat. It wasn’t cute, it wasn’t soft, it-
“Hey!” Tom jumped, but it was too late. Eleonora was already chewing on a piece of his beautiful green t-shirt. Tom walked back, looking at the ugly hole in his shirt.
“What the hell? You stupid, fucking goat!” Tom yelled. Bill put his hand on his brother’s shoulder and turned him around.
“What are you doing? What did I tell you about swearing in front of the kids?” he murmured.
“Eleonora likes your t-shirt!” William said, smiling. Apparently the young twins didn’t care about Tom’s bad language.
“Yeah, green is her favorite color!” Donald added happily. Tom rolled his eyes and looked at his ruined shirt again. Bill saw it.
“Come on, Tom, it’s not that bad, you have a million of these!”
“But this was one of my favorites, I really had a bond with it.” Bill sighed.
“If you just cut off the ruined part, it’s still long enough for you to wear,” he said quite annoyed by Tom’s childishness. Tom shrugged, not knowing what to say. He was angry with the goat, but how to punish an ugly brainless creature?
“Let’s go back inside,” he said, already heading for the door again.
“No! We want to stay here! The sun is shining!” William nagged. Tom just kept on walking as if he didn’t hear him. Bill sighed. Did he have to follow Tom and disappoint the twins or should he start another fight with his brother? He decided to do nothing. He didn’t move and kept on staring at the door through which Tom had just disappeared. Why did Tom always have to be so damn petty?
“Bi-ill!” Donald was patting Bill on the arm. Apparently he had called his name a few times before, but Bill had been too busy with his thoughts.
“Yeah, what?” he asked absently.
“Can we play in the garden house?” Bill looked up and saw a small wooden garden house. It looked quite old and unstable.
“Uhm, sure, why not?” He followed the young twins as they almost danced towards the small cot.

The door made a very unhealthy sound when Donald opened it.
“Oh…” William said quite disappointed when he looked inside. “There’s nothing here…”
The little guy was right. Except for some tools in a box, a few planks and shapeless pieces of wood and an old Dutch clock, there was nothing interesting in the garden house.
“Have you never been here?” Bill asked in surprise. The twins both shook their heads.
“No, daddy says there are dangerous things in here, but I think he lied,” William said. He took a little piece of wood and looked at it, trying to see the fun of it, but he failed.
“I think I might have an idea…” Bill said at once. He took a good look at the planks and nodded. Yeah, this could work. And it would definitely be funny.

Tom slammed the door behind him. Why did he always have to overreact? He hated it when Bill did it, and now he was doing it himself. He took off the ruined t-shirt and took another one out of his bag. No green one this time. A black one would be better. Bill was wearing black and Eleonora didn’t seem interested in black, so that would be safe. He looked at himself in the mirror and realized he could better wear a black cap too, so he took a black cap and put it on his head. Yeah, that would be fine. He left the room again and wanted to go back to the Bill and the twins, when he heard a voice saying his name.
“Tom! What are you doing?” Saki asked. Tom wanted to sigh and walk away, but he couldn’t. Saki was always there for them and he was a very good guy, but sometimes he was just a little too protective.
“Bill and I are taking care of Lucy’s younger brothers,” he said.
“Why?”
“Just because her cousin is tired of babysitting and we have nothing better to do…”
“Do you want me to come too?” Tom was glad this was a question.
“No, you don’t have to. I think you deserve a day off too. We won’t leave the town, believe me.” Saki nodded. Apparently he didn’t think the ‘town’ was very dangerous either.
“I’ll just go check on Gustav and Georg then. Bill is gonna be with you all the time, right?” Tom nodded.
“Yeah. And Gustav and Georg are helping Lucy in the kitchen of the restaurant.”
“Okay, I’ll go there. Be careful, Tom. And whatever you do, make sure you don’t get injured.”
“Why would I get injured?”
“I’m just saying, Tom. Be careful!” Saki pointed at Tom’s nose with his big, muscled finger. Tom nodded. If there was one guy he would never want to fight with, it was Saki. But as a friend and a bodyguard, he was great.

PART 18: TWINS ROCK!

Bill left the garden house, carrying as many pieces of wood as his skinny arms would allow him. Donald and William both took one small plank and followed their babysitter.
“What are we gonna do with the wood, Bill?” William asked. Bill smiled suspiciously.
“You’ll see!”
“Will it be funny?”
“Of course it will be funny! I’m here to make sure you two have a nice day!” He wanted to pat William on the head, but was too afraid to drop a plank on the head of the little guy.
“Can you open the door for me?” Bill asked. William opened the door and the three boys entered the restaurant again. Bill tried to head for the entrance as quickly as he could, but he wasn’t fast enough for Lucy.
“What are you doing with the wood, Bill?” she asked. She had left the kitchen and was now facing Lion-boy and her little brothers. Bill still hadn’t combed his hair, but the messy hair made him look kind of cute. Much more human than he had looked yesterday, with the mane. Lucy herself didn’t look that clean either. She still had a strong orange smell and Bill was quite sure the yellow thing in her ginger hair used to be a banana.
“We’re making a tree hut,” Bill said. Lucy looked at him with wide eyes.
“A what?” She asked, though he was quite sure she had heard him.
“A tree hut.”
“Where?”
“In one of the trees in front of the grocery store.”
Lucy shook her head.
“You’re weird, Bill,” she said. Bill shrugged.
“I know. I heard that single sentence about a million times in my life. And to be honest: I don’t care!” He stuck out his tongue at Lucy and she laughed. She liked his self-confidence.
“Well, if you are planning on spoiling the good atmosphere if front of Mary’s, I won’t be the one to stop you. But I have to tell you: your bus-people are having breakfast over there.”
“My bus-people?”
“She means the crew!” Georg screamed from the kitchen.
“What do you have a crew for?” Lucy asked curiously.
“Oh, you mean the bus-people! I thought you said dust-people!” Bill faked a smile and headed for the entrance again. The twins followed him. He sighed as he got outside and felt a little sorry for leaving Lucy like that. Why did Georg have to talk about the crew? Was he really that stupid?

“Hey, Bill!” Bill looked up and saw David waving at him.
“Hello!” David walked towards Bill and the twins. Apparently he wanted to say something.
“Is this your daddy?” Donald whispered, pointing at David. Bill laughed.
“No, he’s not my daddy. He’s… a friend.”
David came a little closer and smiled at the twins.
“Who are these little guys, Bill?” he asked, though he knew it were the sons of the cook. He just wanted to be polite.
“This is William and that’s Donald.”
“We’re Lucy’s little brothers!” William added.
“Oh, I see. Nice to meet you,” David smiled. He held out his hand and the twins shook it hesitantly.
“What I wanted to tell you, Bill,” he said, frowning at the wood in Bill’s arms, “We are going to the city today. It’s our weekend off too and if you don’t mind, we would like to do something funny. Saki will stay here of course.”
Bill nodded.
“That’s fine, David. You deserve a day off too. I’m really sorry you all have to stay here because of me,” he whispered. He didn’t want the twins to hear the conversation, but they were looking at him with their big brown eyes so interested that he was sure they heard him. It didn’t really matter, they probably wouldn’t understand a single word of it.
“Maybe Tom wants to come with us,” David said.
“No, I don’t.” Bill and David turned their heads and saw Tom. He had a faint smile on his face, as if he wanted to apologize for running away earlier. Bill nodded as if to say ‘it’s okay.’
“I’m just gonna stay here with Bill and the twins. Twins rock!” Tom patted Donald on the head.
“Don’t they?” he asked.
“They do!” Donald yelled, giggling. David was glad to see Tom wasn’t moody anymore.
“Well, if everything’s fine here, I’m gonna leave,” he said. Bill nodded.
“Have fun in the city!”
“I will!” David laughed and walked back to one of the trucks.
“What are we gonna do?” Tom asked, looking at the wood.
“We’re making a treehut!” William screamed. He couldn’t stand still anymore. Tom looked a little worried.
“Euhm, Bill. Do you really think that’s a good idea?” Bill shrugged.
“I don’t know. We’ll see…”

“Okay, so how exactly are we gonna do this?” Tom asked. They were standing under the 2 trees, looking up to the branches. Bill didn’t answer immediately, he was too busy inspecting the left tree.
“I think we could lay a big plank on those two branches,” Bill said while he pointed at the 2 stoutest branches. Tom nodded. That made sense. He tried to remember how their own tree hut had been made. Tom and Bill had a tree hut in their garden when they were young, but they didn’t build it themselves. Their stepdad had done it. They had just helped and carried the planks, like William and Donald were doing right now.
“I think we need tools… and nails,” Tom said. He looked at the younger twins.
“Do you have any tools?” William nodded.
“Yeah, there are some tools in the garden house,” he said. Tom saw the enthusiasm in the eyes of the two little boys. Oh, God… what had Bill done? Did he really think they would be able to build a tree hut in one of those trees? Well, yeah, they could try…

“What the hell are the twins doing?” Gustav asked. He had seen Bill and Tom walking through the restaurant with big pieces of wood and more alarming: he had seen Bill with a hammer.
“They’re building a tree hut in one of Mary’s trees,” Lucy said. She tried to sound serious, but she couldn’t hold back a short giggle.
“You don’t believe they’re making that hut, do you?” Georg asked. Lucy shrugged, but then changed her mind and shook her head.
“No, honestly I don’t.”
“Well, you should!” Georg laughed. He started cutting up carrots and didn’t look at Lucy, just to make her curious. That always worked on girls. The less attention you gave them, the more interested they were. At least, that was the way Georg had experienced it.
“What do you mean?” Apparently the trick worked on Lucy too.
“I don’t know, but I think you’re wrong, my dear Lucy,” he said. Now he looked her in the eyes. At the right moment. He didn’t look away. He kept on staring for more than 10 seconds, until Lucy got tired of it and turned her head. Gustav rolled his eyes. His friend was feeling so cool that it wasn’t healthy anymore. Luckily, Lucy didn’t buy Georg’s tricks either.
“What are you doing?” she asked. Georg didn’t answer.
“Are you trying to impress me?” Lucy asked. She gave him a soft punch in the arm and laughed. Georg shook his head.
“No, I’m not! I’m just telling you that you should believe Bill when he says he’s gonna make a tree hut!” He couldn’t help but laugh too, though.
“Why? Is Bill ‘always’ right?” Lucy asked sarcastically.
“No, but he’s always stubborn and determined. When he says he’s gonna do something, he will do it. That’s it, that’s all I wanted to say.” He felt very uncomfortable right now. A part of him knew that he was trying to impress Lucy indeed, and he was just wondering why that part hadn’t told it to the rest of his body.
“I’m gonna check on Melanie right now, she hasn’t come down yet and it’s already two o’clock.”
“Is it two o’clock?” Gustav asked a little shocked. “Jeez, that’s why I’m so hungry!” He rubbed his stomach.
“When I come back I’ll make you lunch, how does that sound?” Lucy said.
“Sounds good to me!” Georg laughed. He wasn’t that hungry actually, they had been in a kitchen for about 3 hours now and he had ‘tasted’ everything they had made.

“So, do you like her?” Gustav asked when Lucy was gone.
“Uh, what?”
“Lucy! Do you like her? Are you in love with her?” Georg shrugged.
“I’ll be honest, Guus, I don’t know. I like her, but I don’t know if I like her more than I would like any other girl that was here right now. It’s not like you have a wide choice in here, is it?” He looked at his friend for confirmation.
“I know what you mean. A night out in the city will be a good distraction, don’t you think?” Georg nodded.
“Yeah, you’re right. I’ll leave Lucy alone and concentrate on the large amount of slutty girls in the city.” They both laughed at these words.
“What’s so funny?” Lucy entered the kitchen again.
“Oh, nothing important,” Gustav said. “How is Melanie?”
“She was still sleeping,” Lucy said in a low voice, as if she didn’t want anyone to hear her.
“I don’t think she’s alright. I’m afraid she’s overtired. Really, you guys came here right on time. Imagine what would have happened if she crashed in front of the twins…” Lucy shook her head to make the scary thought disappear. Gustav and Georg were both planning on comforting Lucy, but they didn’t get the chance because at that same moment, William and Donald jumped into the kitchen, with the widest smile on their identical faces.
“The tree hut is ready!” they said together.
Georg throw his ‘I told you’-look at Lucy, but she just shook her head in disbelief. She would have to see this first…

Tja, alsek moet wachte op blad 3... Razz

"Dus jullie moeten helemaal opnieuw beginnen?"
Bang Kedeng Bing Ping Doinggggg *galm* enzovoort...
En speciaal voor mijn FFF's: Ho.0fdstuk 19!!!!

PART 19: WHO CARES ABOUT A LITTLE NOISE?

“Did they already finish building that tree hut?” Gustav asked a little surprised. The twins nodded.
“Yeah, Bill and Tom are gonna test it as soon as they can get the ladder out of the truck.” Georg looked at the young boys, hoping they were joking, but he didn’t see a single sign of irony in their eyes. Ladder… truck… Tom and Bill…
“I HAVE to see this!” Georg shouted as he was already running through the restaurant. Gustav, Lucy and the twins followed him.

The first thing Georg saw when he got outside was a ladder that was being pushed out of a truck. Only when he looked a little better, Georg saw two skinny guys with purple faces sitting in the truck and trying the best they could to get that damn ladder out of the truck without hurting themselves.
“You might wanna try loosening the ropes, Bert and Ernie!” Gustav shouted. They all saw Tom look over his shoulder at the ropes that were holding the ladder. Then he turned around, yelled some curses at Bill and gave his twin a short slap on the top of his head. Then he loosened the ropes, causing the ladder to fall down and make the most annoying noise a ladder could ever make.
“Oops…” Bill said. He looked down at the ladder and shrugged. Who cares about a little noise?
“How did you get in that truck?” Gustav asked in a strict voice.
“By putting the key in the lock…” Tom said, playing innocently with a bunch of keys.
“Yeah, I thought so, but where did you get the keys?”
“Oh,” Tom smiled. He looked at his brother, who smiled back at him. “Bill and I have had this keys for over a year. Remember that time when Bob said his keys were stolen by an evil pigeon?”
“Well they weren’t, unless Tom is an evil pigeon…” Bill continued. Both twins now burst into loud laughter. Gustav rolled his eyes. He didn’t see the fun of stealing the keys from the trucks. It was not like there was something in there that they could actually use…

“Come on! Let’s go test the tree hut!” Bill said at once. He jumped out of the truck, followed by his twin. They both took a side of the ladder and carried it to Mary’s front garden.
“There it is!” William yelled quite superfluously when they were standing under something that looked like euhm… an open cardboard box turned upside-down? Georg looked at Lucy, wondering what she was gonna say, but she didn’t say anything. She just shook her head.
“You guys actually built a tree hut in one of Mary’s trees…” she whispered. She held her hand on her chest, as if she was having an attack. “You’re so screwed…”
“So screwed!” Donald echoed, clapping his hands. Bill looked a little worried at Lucy.
“Why? What’s wrong, Lucy?”
“I- I- Well, Mary isn’t really a lovely person,” she said. She looked up at the tree which was covered with nails and – was that gum?
“Couldn’t you have told us that BEFORE we started building the tree hut?” Tom asked. His face was slightly red again. Lucy’s face turned red too. But not because she was angry. She was ashamed.
“I didn’t really think you were actually gonna do this…” she whispered again. Tom started pulling his own dreads.
“Who do you think we are, young lady?” he asked, though he didn’t expect an answer.
“Tom!” Bill yelled. “It’s not her fault,” he said. But his face revealed his own disappointment. If there was one thing both twins couldn’t handle, it was not being believed or being doubted. Lucy bowed her head.
“Look guys, I’m really sorry. It probably won’t be that bad…”
“Let’s hope!” Tom said. He threw a last mad look at Lucy and then decided to stop about it. He and Bill placed the ladder on the right place so they could go up to their tree hut.
“You get the honor of going up first,” Tom said, smiling at Bill. Bill shook his head.
“No way I’m going up there! I could fall and break something.”
“Oh, and I couldn’t?”
“I will do it!” Donald yelled. He jumped on the ladder, but was picked off by Georg.
“I don’t think so, young man,” he whispered as he tilted Donald high above his head, letting him fly like an airplane. Donald giggled. He didn’t really know Georg before, but now he liked him.
“How about I go up there with a few tools and I try to turn that shapeless mess into a tree hut?” Gustav offered.
“I think that would be a good idea,” Lucy said. “Come on, we can go back inside and make lunch, so Gustav can eat when he finished the tree hut.” She held her hands out at her brothers, but only William took one of her hands. Donald preferred being carried back to the restaurant by Georg. Gustav sighed when he saw the others walk back, leaving him behind with his own mission impossible.
“But I meant after lunch…” he said silently, but no one heard him.

Gustav picked up the tools that the twins had left under the tree. He sighed one last time and climbed the ladder. There, he tried not to fall and fix anything the twins had ‘made’. It not that easy, some plank even didn’t have any nails in them, so Gustav had to start all over. Gustav was the most skilful one, but unfortunately that wasn’t always an advantage when you had to live on a bus with Tom, Bill and Georg. Sometimes he wished he was just as clumsy as his friends…
“HEY!” he heard at once. He almost fell down because of the sudden noise. He turned his head and saw an old, ugly woman standing under the tree. She had the angriest, scariest face Gustav had ever seen. Yeah, NOW she had to come outside, now Tom and Bill were gone… Actually Gustav was quite happy he was sitting in the tree, high and safe.
“For God’s sake! Get out of my tree!” the old woman yelled. Gustav looked down at her, not knowing what to say.
“Euhm, good morning, miss,” he said.
“What are you doing?!” She yelled.
“I’m building a tree hut for the young twins,” Gustav said. Maybe she wouldn’t get mad if it was for the two little boys.
“Why the hell do you need to build a tree hut? And who are you?” She didn’t seem nice yet, but her face was getting a little less purple. Gustav thought that was a good sign, so he got out of the tree and offered her his hand.
“Gustav Schäfer, I’m staying at the bed-and-breakfast this weekend because our bus had broken down.” The woman seemed quite surprised that he was being so polite and she shook his hand, probably just because she didn’t know what else to do.
“Well, I’m Mary,” she said. She pointed at the grocery store, which had the name ‘Mary’s’ in big, black letters on it. “I’m not so happy with your tree hut, actually.” She gave Gustav the mad look again, making him bow his head.
“I’m sorry, miss. We just meant to give the twins a nice place to play…” He shrugged. “There aren’t any trees in their own garden, so we thought we could build them a tree hut in one of yours…” Mary looked at him and sighed. She seemed to like Gustav’s politeness.
“Well, if you can help me fix my sink when you’re done here, you can build the tree hut in that tree. But only if you make sure there will be no children falling out of it when my clients are eating here. And when you leave, the tree hut is leaving too. Is it a deal?” She asked, staring at him through one eye, which made her look like a Disney-witch. Gustav nodded.
“Okay, I’ll help you fix the sink,” he said. Bye-bye lunch.
“Good, just come inside when you’re done with…” she waved at the wood in the tree. “…the thing.” She went back inside.

Lucy, Georg and all the twins were sitting in the kitchen. They had already eaten and done the dishes. Now they were just waiting for Gustav. It had been almost 2 hours since they went back inside and the tree hut-builder still wasn’t back. Georg, Lucy, Tom and Bill had been talking about unimportant stuff like school and work and the young twins were playing volleyball with an orange.
“Do you wanna play with us?” Donald asked Georg when he saw his big airplane-friend was bored. Georg smiled and shook his head.
“No, I think I’m gonna check if Gustav is still alive.” He stood up and walked out of the kitchen, without saying something else. When he got outside, he didn’t see his friend immediately.
“Gustav! Are you almost ready?” Georg yelled. No answer.
“This is weird…” Georg whispered. He saw no one in or around the tree hut, so he climbed the ladder carefully. The tree hut seemed alright. Gustav had probably finished it.
“Georg!” Georg turned around and saw Gustav standing under the tree, an old lady standing next to him.
“Oh, there you are! I was looking for you!” Georg yelled.
“Did you miss me that much?” Both guys laughed.
“No, Bill sent me,” Georg said. “Where were you?”
“I was helping Mary, something was wrong with the sink…”
“Okay. Let’s go inside now, you must be hungry.”
“Oh no, I’m not. I just ate. Mary gave me sandwiches.” Gustav smiled gratefully at the old lady.
“What?!” Georg wanted to shout, but he didn’t because Mary was still standing next to his friend. “Well yeah, let’s just go back inside then…” Georg said in a low voice. He got out of the tree hut and walked back to the restaurant. Gustav said goodbye to Mary and followed Georg. He had the feeling his friend was mad at him and he wanted to know why.
“Georg! Georg!!”
“Hmmm…”
“What’s wrong?” Gustav put his hand on Georg’s shoulder, turning him around so they could look at each other.
“Why didn’t you eat in the restaurant?” Georg asked.
“Why would I? I was hungry, the woman offered me a sandwich, why would I say no?”
“Just because…” Georg shrugged. “Well, I don’t know actually…” He shook his head in confusion.
“Jeez, Georg, you’re acting weird, you know. It’s not like you paid for the food Lucy gave you. But I’ll eat another sandwich if that makes you happy.” Gustav rolled his eyes and entered the restaurant. Georg didn’t move. He stared at the door for a few seconds and sighed. Why? Why did he care?
“You’re a freak, Georg, you’re a freak,” he said to himself. Then he opened the door and entered the restaurant, which gave him a weird feeling of happiness.
